I'm definitely not a fan of having Nylander out there in those 5 on 6 situations but other Leafs had chances to get it out of there too.

While that’s true, it’s regular season December, so he should get some reps in case he gets caught out there when games matter more. They take him off the wing (for reasonable reasons) in DZ play but more experience can have long term positive impact.
