What a matter with Macintyre as Back up? Reimer just needed to stop 3 goals two years ago to cement his place on this team, he couldnt stem the tide and was history from that point on.

you could say the exact same thing about potvin in 93.

no offense but this is a ridiculous comment.

It's worse than ridiculous. Reimer single-handedly brought the team to the playoffs and, imo, outplayed Rask. The last 15 minutes of the game was literally spent in Toronto's end. They could not get the puck. For almost 15 minutes straight. Reimer and Bernier could have both been in net at the same time and those 3 goals are probably still scored.

After today, Winnipeg is the only team in the entire league that doesn't have two NHL quality goalies signed. So he likely either gets traded there or stays, and I'm betting he stays.

I'm trying to figure out what he might get, is 2.2 way too low?

Probably not. I mean, he's coming off a year where he wasn't the starter and put up a fairly average Sv% to go with a poor GAA and record. His 12/13 stats will help boost his salary a little from the $1.6M he earned this past season, but, not a whole lot. He should come in somewhere between $2M and $2.5M.

If that's the case the Leafs have a fair bit of cap space left over if Granberg makes the jump and Gardiner comes in just under 3.

Not set on this mind you, especially considering they need some real pk'rs still, but it shows how much room they have if that's the case...

I would be more than ok if the Leafs went with Granberg/Holzer as the 6th/7th D-men.  Normally I would prefer to have guys with different unique skillsets in those roles but I think this year might be a bit of a gong-show with Carlyle still in charge and the lack of reliable performers in the lineup.  Holzer's done all that he can at the AHL level, time to let him sink or swim and Granberg is an interesting prospect.

FriedgeHNIC: James Reimer among the first players to file for salary arbitration. Numbers do not need to be exchanged yet, but deadline is Saturday.

A poster on HF boards said that him filing means that we can't trade him, I didn't think that was the case.

I couldn't find anything in CBA that says that.

Is not true, is it?

Nope. People get this confused all the time. There's nothing about arbitration that prevents players from being traded. It's matching an offer sheet that does (also, signing an offer sheet also does until a decision is made on it).

What it does do, however, is prevent Reimer from being signed to an offer sheet.

I saw you replied to the post I was talking about.

It didn't make sense that Reimer would ask for a trade and then do something that would prevent him from being traded.

Yeah. I don't post often on HFBoards, but that's one of the misconceptions out there that bugs me - especially in this case. I mean, just look at all the people doing mental gymnastics trying to justify his reasoning with the belief he can't be traded. They're proposing scenarios that, while legitimately possible, just don't pass the smell test.
