No announcement from the team or any other official sources. No other prominent reporter or media source reporting the buyout has happened. Wouldn't be the first time a reporter has jumped the gun and assumed something happened before it was actually acted upon. He was waived for the purpose of being eligible for a buyout - not necessarily for the Leafs to execute that buyout. They might, but they don't appear to have made it official yet.
TBLeafer said:if you go back to the OP, I don't see eligible anywhere in that Tweet. He was waived for buyout purposes. Why try to think a reporter of a network, in a company that is part owner of the Leafs jumped the gun?

Just because it's not in a tweet doesn't mean it's not real. It's in the CBA. That's why he was placed on waivers. Without clearing waivers, he cannot be bought out. That's why he was put on waivers. It's that simple and straightforward. Until there's actually an official announcement, or at least some other reporters (many of whom also work for networks that are owned by the companies that own the Leafs) provides some sort of confirmation.

Yeah. That's been confirmed by a number of media sources.
herman said:So the buyout process is two steps, right?
Step 1: Waivers
Step 2: File Buyout papers
and we have a bit of a window, now that Cowen has cleared waivers, to potentially still deal his rights to another team to initiate the buyout?

Yup. Leafs have until the end of the month to trade him or file the buyout papers.

Thanks. The CapFriendly FAQ is lacking on details for this transaction.

Not saying Chris Johnson at Sportsnet was right or wrong over at Sportsnet either, but PPP also reported him to be bought out as soon as he cleared.
