You spelt "spelt" "spelt."  "Spelt" should be spelled "spelled."

What a grate sentence.

Depends on how British you're feeling.

Kinda feeling pretty Britty right now:

God save the Queen
We mean it man
We love our Queen
God saves

The season before McClement was signed our 4 most frequent penalty killing forwards were Pascal Dupuis, David Steckel, Tim Connolly, and Joey Crabb. That was just two years ago. Three of those players don't have NHL contracts anymore, and Joey Crabb is a healthy scratch with the Florida Panthers.

In McClement's first season the other 3 top penalty killing forwards were Kulemin, Komarov, and Bozak. That's a huge step-up looking at it 4 for 4.

I don't think enough credit is going to the biggest reason: the goaltending.

Last season Reimer had a .920 SV% on the PK.
In 11-12, Gustavsson was the best at ,875, Scrivens was .865, and Reimer was woeful at .808.
In '10-11, Reimer was .855, Giguere was .835, and Gustavsson was .784.
In 09-10, Gustavsson was .851, Toskala was .778.

The goaltending makes that big of a difference.

You spelt "Carlyle" wrong.

You spelt "spelt" "spelt."  "Spelt" should be spelled "spelled."

What a grate sentence.

Not to hijack McClampdown's (lets give this a shot?) thread but since the PK has been operating so well in his absence, I'm wondering if it further reinforces Kulie as a tradeable or expendable (in terms of not re-signing in the offseason) asset.

After McClampdown (I dunno...), Bolland, JVR, Bozak, Raymond give good PKing fwd depth and have done well - especially JVR (over 2:30 PK time a game). Even Kadri has done well in the few shifts he's been out there.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Kulie fan but the more I think about the more it seems that the defensive role that he plays 5 on 5 just isn't natural. Yes, he is diligent in being the defensive anchor on any line under Carlyle - almost to a fault but whenever I've watched him it just hasn't seemed natural. I think the word that I'm looking for - and this applies to his play on the PK too - is that while he is diligent and plays hard, he doesn't have natural instincts in terms of hockey sense especially on the defensive end. Something that Bolland and McClampdown seem to have in spades.

Maybe I'm overthinking it and not giving Kulie enough credit but I wouldn't be surprised if he got traded and even less surprised if he isn't re-signed at the end of the season. I hope I'm wrong.

So he's diligent defensively and played the 2nd most forward minutes on the 2nd ranked PK last season, but you'd get rid of him because he doesn't look natural when he does it?

I don't see why that would matter?  Are we interested in form over substance?  By your own admission he's a hard worker who has been entrusted with a lot of heavy minutes and has performed well in those minutes.

The PK was never going to sink or swim on the back of one player alone, and I don't see why the team would want to purposely hurt its depth simply because a player looks unnatural when doing something, or because the team didn't fall off a cliff on the PK without him.

Carlyle gets McClampdown and Wilson has Phillipe Dupuis.  Life ain't fair sometimes.

I never said I'd get rid of him; I'm a big fan of Kulie and his play and if I had my way he'd be re-signed.

I'm speculating about how the Leafs may look at his situation going forward. Maybe it's unlikely that they trade him but I certainly don't think it's outrageous that they would consider him expendable when it comes to re-signing him.

That's not better. Can we not force unnatural nicknames on players, please? This is Lockdown Luke Schenn all over again, but even worse this time.

You make it sound as if "Kool Lemon" didn't take the world by storm.
