Not to hijack McClampdown's (lets give this a shot?)

Pretty please, let's not.

Fair enough, McClementykill it is!  ;)

That's not better. Can we not force unnatural nicknames on players, please? This is Lockdown Luke Schenn all over again, but even worse this time.

:P  Get over it busta, that was a great nickname, way better than crap like Optimus Reim.  ::)

Some stats in here about the Leafs PK and the precarious nature of it right now - allowing far more shots against than last season and relying on the goaltending to an unsustainable degree: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/leafs-beat/are-these-maple-leafs-better-than-last-years-team/article15291864/

Hopefully some personnel returning can go a ways to helping out, but the PK is one area where the face-offs are probably noticeably hurting the team.

Good point.  Bozak actually logs a fair mount of PK time, does he not?  They need him to win draws, and he's gotten good at getting in passing lanes.

Also Kulemin.

EDIT: and Fraser, who seems to be the forgotten man.  I just did.  :P

I can't see Fraser making much of a difference - he was 4th among the D in SH time per game last season of those who played most/all of the season.  When Holzer and O'Byrne were in the lineup both averaged more PK time per game than Fraser.

I'm sure he'll get PK time, I just don't think he'll personally make much of a difference.

Definitely. Every time you win a face-off on the PK and ice the puck off of it, by the time the other team has regained the zone and set things up, you've killed like 15-20 seconds of the penalty. You get that done 2 or 3 times a PK, and you've severely limited the other team's ability to create chances, never mind goals.

McClement - 7.48 goals/60 minutes of PK time.  Last year 3.84.
Kulemin - 6.18 goals/60 minutes of PK time. Last year 6.88.

Interestingly, JVR leads the team among forwards with just 3.04 goals/60 minutes given up on the PK.

I don't know why the PK has fallen off so much this year.  Everyone agrees the goaltending hasn't been the reason ... don't we?

I personally think they aren't attacking the puck as much.

That kind of number is pretty heavily weighted towards presenting guys on the second PK unit as better, isn't it? Because a team with a really good PP will tend to convert early in the man advantage and give your Kulemin-types less time out there and specifically less time against a team's #1 unit.

I wonder how McClement looks in that regard compared to the guys he tends to be on the ice on the PK with.

Well Kulemin is 2nd on the team in SH-TOI/game by a pretty wide margin.
