Jerseygate 14/15

In any case dudes and dudedettes will continue to throw their stuff on the ice and continue to erode any sense of good behaviour. Think its to bad the kidz have to watch this happen as they will think this is OK to do. Sort of like a wheel in the muck, the more it spins the further down it goes.
I guess I have had my rant.

As indifferent to unsympathetic as I am to the jersey tossing, I think it would have been kind of bizarrely awesome if somebody had tossed a Leaf jersey onto the ice at the All-Star Game.

I was in Greece once and notice a guy weaving down the street plastered.  People were actually going up to this dude and spitting on him. You see public drunkeness in Greece is just not acceptable behaviour. And people do not tolerate it.
I think we have really lost some of our moral compass along the way.

I think that story proves your point but not in the way that you think.

I think I'd rather live in a place that tolerates public drunkenness than a place that tolerates people spitting on one another, outside of a Headstones concert.

I think next time I watch Armageddon or Deep Impact, I'm going to cheer for the asteroid.

Real mature.

Expecting to get your money's worth out of a hockey ticket is, in fact, the opposite of entitlement.

i dont understand why people stay to the bitter end. i think in the games where its a blowout the entire rink should empty out with 10 minutes to go. get a head start home. go for a pint.  anything but forcing yourself to sit for ten meaningless minutes.  it would make much more of a statement than throwing a jersey on the ice. they do it in soccer all the time. well that and throwing pound coins at the other team.......

I'd just point out that, I'm guessing it the Leafs "in your fathers day" got beat 9-2 and had sucked for the better part of 10 years, jerseys may have been thrown on the ice. The other thing at play here is the cost of a ticket. Also tickets weren't even close to the same price in those days (as a percentage of income), athletes weren't getting paid as much etc.

What were ticket prices in those days?

Personally I wouldn't do it, but if someone feels disgusted enough to do that? Well they paid their ticket and all......

So if you pay for a ticket you can do whatever you want?

If you have time to read, there are some posts in here comparing 1992 to 2010. (I'm linking hf boards, the horror).

http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?t=822919

I'll look for some prices from the 40's and 50's.

Thanks!  I found literally nothing when I googled it, which surprised me.

I was surprised too. I'm assuming (which is never good I know) that with wages stagnating and the ad revenue for both teams and players over the last few years that tickets are much more expensive relative to income than they were in the 40's-50's-60's.

That's harder to prove than I would've thought....

Some Leaf ticket stubs from 1971 - $6.60/each

Some stubs from the '80s - a range of prices/dates, but $11 for a seat in the Greys in 1989.

Red Wings 1960/61 playoff tickets - $2.50 each

Thanks!

Doing some research a gallon of milk cost $0.93 so that ticket price is roughly the price of 3 gallons of milk, or $12-16 today according to this article........

So using the Bank of Canada inflation calculator:

The 1971 seats: $38.58 in 2014

1989 greys: $18.00 in 2014

Red Wings 1960/61: $19.82 in 2014

So can the word 'gate' just be added to any ongoing news story? Like ISISgate or Bozak as a 1st line centregate? Was Watergate really this influential??

Good to know. That 60/61 ticket is also a playoff ticket for $20!!!

What do Leafs playoff tickets go for these days? Are they the same price as the regular season?

Leafs never make the playoffs, haha etc... I know but the Bruins series as an example.

Way to start Hatehategate. Also, Gatehategate.

Doesn't an extra gate negate the first gate? Or is it a gateway to more gates?

Don't worry, I'll throw a rock through my T.V. when the asteroid loses.
