Haven't even seen him play and i'm already sick of hearing about Schultz.

Let's talk about this Schultz instead...

haha... Imagine, Schultz, Holzer, Kessel, Mueller... Just what exactly is going on here?

So, if the Leafs sign Schultz, will you rename yourself as Sgt. Schultz?

Here's a new wrinkle..

Strongly led to believe MIN, as in Wild, are in on shortlist for UFA dman Justin Schultz. That would make 6 teams we know of. Maybe more?

DarrenDreger: Justin Schultz lottery is fascinating, considering teams IN and teams OUT.  Told Flyers are in the "OUT" line.

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Calgary, Boston and Detroit also among high-profile teams that didn't make Justin Shultz short-list...

If the list is accurate, it is interesting to see some of his priorities.  4 Canadian teams, only 1 American team.. of the 5, two are "contenders" and the other three I would dare say are up and coming.  No Calgary or Mtl on his heavily Canadian short list... suggests he thinks they will suck for a long time (true) and the other options could be good teams sooner.

Before the Minnesota thing I was wondering if he was looking for a large, safe cosmopolitan city.  (Montreal could have worked too.)

Hmm.  Hard to know what excludes Boston if NY Rangers are the list ... On the other hand, this is all just speculation.

Interesting tidbit:

"Wade Arnott, the Newport agent who is primarily responsible for Schultz, has done business with Burke before. It was Arnott who helped steer Phil Kessel to the Leafs, and he also represents Leaf first round pick Tyler Biggs, who has left college to play either in the AHL with the Marlies or the CHL with the Oshawa Generals next season."

That can't hurt.

Yup, kinda like an enema.

Not really sure there's much to be read into here. Kessel's agent steered him to the team that wanted to pay him the most money. He knew what the Bruins were willing to pay and figured Toronto would give more.

I don't like the reports coming out that Schultz is shortlisting teams based on guaranteed playing time.  For a guy who has 0 NHL games under his belt, he sure seems to be asking for a lot if he really expects a top 6 defensive spot from day 1.

Isn't that the opposite of what he is doing?

He rejected the Wings who all but guaranteed him a top four spot to start the season.

Oilers made their pitch to Justin Schultz yesterday. Toronto and Ottawa among the remaining few presenting today. #TSN

Last team to meet would be best (impression wise) :)

I wonder of Gardiner is on hand for the meeting?

Maybe it's just media hype blowing things out of proportion but there seems to be a general consensus that he'll go where he thinks he can play right away.

Playing time is probably a significant factor in his criteria but not the only one.

From the teams he picked it seems like he's looking for a younger team that is ready to break out... (queue the Leaf sarcasm machine) and threw in a couple of contenders too.

Probably comes down to which team he feels is headed to the top, needs him, has room for him to play and gives him the best chance at succeeding short and long-term.

At least in Toronto he knows Burke, Carlyle, Gardiner, Kessel and the agent connection / engineering of the Kessel deal should bode well.

@Jgardiner272

Gonna stop by @realsports apparel in about 20 minutes. Come down and say hi

At least we know Gardiner is in town, probably will be part of the Leafs delegation that presents to Schultz.

I hope Burke tells him the Leafs will try to land Roberto Luongo or Martin Brodeur to play behind him in goal.

Minny-St. Paul is no less cosmopolitan than Ottawa or Edmonton and it's bigger than either.

I think people are digging a little deep here for reasons as to why he's chosen who he did. He's from out west, he played with Gardiner, the closest team to Wisconsin is the Wild, the Rangers play in New York friggin' city and so on.
