Kaberle on waivers

How does this happen?

He was a pretty good player with the Leafs (probably over-rated because he played for the Leafs) but to see his talent or ability or drive or whatever disappear as soon as he went to another team seems hard to comprehend.

Hate to say it, but without mentioning specifics, the guy had some pretty rough personal problems around the end of his stay in Toronto, perhaps his life change negatively affected him and father time also tracked him down.

Yep guy had a long career in Toronto and clearly loved the place.  It always just seemed odd to see him in another jersey almost like it did seeing Sundin in a nuck sweater.  I certainly wish him the best, he was always a straight up guy and I would love to see somebody pick him up.  He is one guy I would hate to see wallow in the AHL, another reason to hate the Habs I guess.

I always thought McCabe was a much better player overall then Kaberle.  People used to say McCabe was one-dimensional shooter.  By that same logic Kaberle was a one-dimensional passer.

With Markov back and Suban on fire the Canadiens do not need another offensive D-man. There is probably no trade market for him. THis year is truly bad for him, yet, last seson he managed 31 points between Carolina and Canadiens, which is not that bad.
He needs 16 games to hit 1000 games in the NHL, it would be awful to see him playing for Hamilton Bulldogs, but it is closer to Toronto...

Anyone know what his personal problems were? Was it a death in the family?

Divorce.

I think the concussion also had a  tumultuous effect on him. It's too bad because in his prime he was a premier offensive d-man. And a genuinely nice guy too.

Thanks. Just one more example that no amount of money can buy happiness.

Per Bob Mackenzie's Twitter feed, the Habs have notified Kaberle that he will be bought out.

Knock me over with a feather, but MTL has officially notified Tomas Kaberle that the dman will be MTL's second and final compliance buyout.

His NHL career may be over.
