Kaberle on waivers

Tomas Kaberle was living in the Czech Republic and playing for his childhood team, but he was still following the Toronto Maple Leafs. He watched games whenever he could. He texted Phil Kessel every now and then. He showed up at practices and went out to dinner with the players whenever he was in town. He did not know three-quarters of the lineup, but there was an attachment there.

There always will be, he said.

?Thirteen years is thirteen years,? Kaberle, who is back living in Toronto with his wife and two young children, said of his time spent playing for the Leafs. ?It?s most of my career in the city. I had a lot of good times here, a lot of good memories. It?s hard not to follow. I?m probably going to follow when I?m done playing. It?s what you do all your life.?

Nice guy  :)

With Rielly and Gardiner needing Kaberle quality ice time, I don't think there's a spot for him on the Leafs.

I think he went through some personal stuff that affected his conditioning and performance. That appears to be behind him now.

He's kind of a young 36 years old because he didn't get banged up a lot.

His style suits the league shift towards increased appreciation of those great at puck possession. Tomas was rarely foolish with the puck and could really pass it and skate it out of the zone.

If he's back to a top fitness level, and a team needed a puck mover/help with their PP, he might be worth checking out for a club. There wasn't much on the UFA market this summer in dmen.

I wouldn't mind him as some veteran insurance for when Robidas breaks his leg again.
I was thinking more along the lines if one of the centers does a Bolland and misses most the season.

On a tryout with New Jersey. I thought he was older than 36. Anyway, I'm rooting for the guy. Always liked him.

Too bad for him, seemed like he had a couple solid preseason games anyway.  Saw this from the 22nd on twitter:

@dtolensky

Tomas Kaberle played a game-high 25:45 for the Devils tonight, including 3:53 on the PK. He was +2 and assisted on the GWG.
