Kaberle on waivers

It was downhill for him ever since he left the Leafs. He was playing well when we traded him and he went on to be a non-factor in Boston. Wish him well in the future, and I'll never forget how awesome Kaberle-to-Mccabe was.

Knock me over with a feather, but MTL has officially notified Tomas Kaberle that the dman will be MTL's second and final compliance buyout.

His NHL career may be over.

Quite likely.

Loved him as a Leaf, and truly, considering where he was drafted he had a helluva career.  What a skater and a passer.

Boy, I never thought he would go downhill as fast as he did after he got traded.  Was I ever wrong about his game.  I figured a guy who plays like him would be effective into his late 30s.  I have to wonder whether his marital problems just took the will to play out of him.

Glad he won a Cup and wish him all the best.

Me too. But he did seem to let his conditioning slide. Wasn't looking as fleet of foot and did seem a bit heavier from what (little) I saw of him with Carolina and Montreal.

I did think he was pretty good with Boston. Not used especially well, but when he was on the ice they did have a great first pass that they didn't with the second pairing.

Wonder if the Kaberle's will stand as the only brothers to both be bought out of their contracts, both of which signed originally by the same team.

My dream was to always had Kaberle have a look on Left Wing even for a few games....never will happen now.  He had the hands to be a good winger.

I recently saw an interview with him on Czech TV and he seemed quite happy, after a divorce he married a Canadian girl (from Toronto  ;D), they have a baby (Lucas), he still owns a condo in Toronto and he sounded that family means much more to him than his hockey career. He said that when he playing for Kladno in the Czech Republic during the lockout he missed very much his wife Julia and his son who was too young to fly that much. He talked about another baby, my guess is that he stays in Toronto and like his captain Mats will be a happy father. Looking forward to seing him in next alumni game in blue and white.

That hab jersey is terrible, at least little Lucas is wearing blue and white  ;D

I wonder if he could help out at a contract below a million, and if it doesnt work out we can send him to the farm. Maybe playing and being back in Toronto would create a spark and he would be good on the bottom pairing, his experience would be good to help out the young guys.

Thought this was interesting. I wonder if a team will take a chance (and God, I hope it's not the Leafs)...

From Elliotte Friedman's 30 Thoughts:

In an effort to stay in the NHL, Tomas Kaberle has hired Andy O'Brien and Darryl Belfry to train him. O'Brien is Sidney Crosby's trainer.

I would give him a try-out in a camp, if he outplays Liles or O?Byrne, why not to sign him (he would be damn cheap).

I can hardly believe that he lost it all. First step is to get himself into shape, Toronto environment could help mentally and seing that all his personal problems are over he could get focused on hockey again.

I am not saying to sign him, if he is available in September, offer him a tryout. He will not decline and the rest is up to him.

Looks like Kabs is heading to the KHL.

Kaberle signed in his hometown Kladno of the Czech Extraleague. Less money, more comfort. He already played on Friday.

They also apparently offered him an out-clause if he wanted to return to the NHL. The KHL team wasn't offering that.

I heard him in an interview this week. Less money, but it comes with an out. More than anything else, he would like to return to the NHL and believes that can stillhappen once he proves that he is healthy and can still play at that level.
