My god. U know when Danault outscores your stars it's not your night. What a horrible effort from top to bottom.

The effort hasn't been that awful, the Kings have played a very good defensive game and Campbell has been suspect.

Just not the teams night.  I only saw the third but some decent Quick saves and everything is going in our net.  Even the empty net goal there, puck goes back.  Hits the ref to deflect then goes off the side of the net to go right to the stick of a Kings player.  Just no chance when the bounces don't go your way.
Yup one of those nights...Campbell wasn't good enough and Quick made the saves when needed. On to the next one.

Is this the showcase Pierre Engvall for trade game? He kind of stinks... Like an only slightly better version of Fred Gauthier

Mistake Dubas made was not keeping McCann. Should have left someone else exposed in the Kraken draft even Holl as a few have stated. The bottom six hasn't done much at all. McCann would have improved the forward group. Worse part is Mtl will beat these clowns tomorrow.

The question now is, Campbell or Hutch on Weds?  Or Woll?  Or Kallgren?  One of them will need to play Fri or Sat anyway.

Just like we drew it up 2 years ago

Campbell...Kallgren for me on the weekend. We'll see what they do tomorrow. With Mrazek on the shelf I wonder if Keefe gives Semyonov a chance.

I dont think anyone was arguing when they protected Holl.  He was a top 4 defender last season.

his regression this year is shocking really.  Hopefully he turns it around

He played well but he's not a top 4 D. Only reason he was put there is because we don't have much to replace him with. Now that they've given the 2 youngsters a more prominent role he's where he should be. His position could have been filled easier and McCann should never have been traded. He's a perfect guy centering your 3rd line and would bring more to the table than Kampf. I would have kept Mccann rather than signing Ritchie who I think is too slow. Regardless what's done is done. If I were Dubas and there is talk of trading a D man. Trade hopefully Holl for some forward help or recoup some picks which we desperately need.

Quick made some big saves early in the first as well. If any of those go in, it's a different game. Even after LA went up 1-0, the Leafs had a couple real good chances and then the second goal went in and it was all over.

Couple notes from what I've been seeing....

-Nylander and Matthews are gaining chemistry. I hope they keep them together. They are both masters at retrieving lost pucks
-Tavares has been a monster so far this season. He's back to the JT from the first season here
-Muzzin seems off. He's been slow to react to situations and his head just doesn't seem to be in the game
-The two young ones on the point seemed to be a little off yesterday. To be expected every once and a while. It hurts when they both have them at the same time.
-Nik Ritchie is a plug

I like Kase's game.  He seems to have a bunch of crafty moves like that last one.

I think the checking line really needs him right now but once Mikheyev comes back and goes into that role I'd like to see Kase at least given a shot in the top-6 at some point.

I was fine with Holl going into the pressbox at first, and I was fine with Liljegren staying in the line-up considering his play, but keeping Holl in there just because the team was picking up W's seemed a little short-sighted. Hopefully now he gets a chance to get his game back. Dermott should be the one sitting at this point. Like basically every single time he's been given a shot in the top-4 he's struggled.

I wasn't expecting this:

Leafs had a substantial edge in possession numbers, scoring chances, etc. Some that is score effects, but, outside a slow start, they were the better team, statistically (I mean, other than in the one stat that matters in deciding the game).

Subtract Danault's double kick goal from the xG and the scoresheet and it's a pretty different looking game. Quick played really well and the Kings killed us off the rush.

Per Jack Han, the Leafs were playing a standard 1-2-2 NZ forecheck and for whatever reason, the defense was struggling without that extra support back there. They switched to 1-1-3 around the time Holl was boxed (also started the season with a non-COVID illness) and re-found their defensive success, which also coincided with, or perhaps triggered Marner and Matthews waking up.
