Depth is a beautiful thing.
I didn't watch most of the game, but reviewing a bunch of things from it this morning and noticed that 5-on-5 shot attempts with Lily on the ice were just 2 for the Leafs and 21 for the Kings. Actual shots weren't quite as bad at just 2 for 8 against. Surprised to see that generally speaking most people seemed to think Lily actually didn't play all that badly. It's certainly possible that he wasn't actually that bad but numbers like that obviously can't continue.Liljegren was used sparingly and I hardly noticed him. I didn't notice anything bad?
Last night was hardly a night anyone on the team should be particularly proud of from a defensive POV - and those two lines especially. Once they went up 3-0, they really stopped applying the defensive pressure we've seen them capable of. Hard to judge an individual performance under those circumstances.I didn't watch most of the game, but reviewing a bunch of things from it this morning and noticed that 5-on-5 shot attempts with Lily on the ice were just 2 for the Leafs and 21 for the Kings. Now one part of that is Lily played almost the entire game with the Tavares and 4th line who also seemingly had a very unimpressive nights. It was a very stark difference from his usage under Keefe as he barely got any playing time with Matthews, Marner, and Nylander. In about 5 minutes with Tavares shot attempts were 0-9 for the Kings. In 4:42 of ice-time with Reaves shot attempts were an insane 0-14 for LA.
He still gets knocked off the puck a little too easily for my liking, but, otherwise, he's been alright. Not sure if it's enough to keep him in the lineup consistently when everyone is healthy, but, enough for him to at least be part of the rotation of extra bodies.
Okay that’s a fun line name
Tavares is an awesome 3C on any team but we have a lot of talent on this team so I would like to see Nylander, Matthews, and Marner on 3 different lines. The balance could be even better. Let's see what Marner can do without a core 4 on his line.I didn't watch most of the game, but reviewing a bunch of things from it this morning and noticed that 5-on-5 shot attempts with Lily on the ice were just 2 for the Leafs and 21 for the Kings. Can I just say that I kind of love Berube's quotes? So straightforward.I liked the follow-up quote even better. Somebody asked him what message he was trying to send. "There was no message."
You have to give Marner a scorer. Without one, his skillset is wasted.Tavares is an awesome 3C on any team but we have a lot of talent on this team so I would like to see Nylander, Matthews, and Marner on 3 different lines.
