Komisarek

As things are going right now , I shudder to think that Komi might come back and knock Franson out of the line-up.I don't cringe in fear when he has the puck unlike when Komisarek has it.

That won't happen for a while in any case.

Yup. Komisarek is still at least 6 weeks away, I believe.

Personally I thought Komisarek had been our best defensive dman over the last 10 games or so before he got hurt. He's been physical and nasty when needed and not over extending himself. I actually like all our D right now... ok, except for Jeff Finger.

Good but our best? I'm sorry but not even close IMO.

What's not to like? I mentioned a number of days ago that I thought this defence (as a collective) was probably the most mobile and gifted offensively as I remember. - Ever.

Montreal sure knew when to let this guy walk.  Since then, in 138 games for the Leafs he has 2 goals and 16 assists.  Which is more like what he was getting per season as an "All Star" in Montreal.  I know he was brought in for his grit but really, if he is engaged in the play at all, he should have more points just by chance.

I don't think so. Purely defensive defensemen can have pretty successful seasons and only put up 10-15 points.

I agree with your point about Mtl's timing on letting him go, but basing his performance on points is, well... pointless.

To the point that his passes are not connecting, whether it be breaking out of the defensive zone or holding the blue line to create a scoring chance for the forwards....its just not happening as often as I would like to see.

Forgot passing, the man can't competently clear the puck out of his own zone. Watch his hilarious attempts at clearing using his backhand.

This is probably one of the worst parts of his game, which is just unacceptable for a defensive defenseman.  He can't make good outlet passes AND he's not good at clearing the zone.

Yeah, when I think of good defensive defencemen this team used to have I think of Robert Svehla or hell, even Glenn Wessley. With those guys, every time they touched the puck in the defensive end it was out of our zone. Every time this guy gets the puck he throws a grenade at his defensive partner or passes right to the opposition. Just get it off the glass and out.

It's not just him, but the rest of the players on the team are guilty of not getting the puck out.

I understand that. But if you award a "defensive stud" 25 million dollars he somehow has to set an example.

Agreed.  He needs to have a bit more composure, think about what he needs to do and execute.  If he isn't doing those things, there is not much left he has to offer the team.
I think that if he is playing within his skillset, the evidence will be chipping in an assist every 4 games, not every 10.

The sad part is he has the tools, he just ain't using them.  He should not be slowing down at 30 - there is more in the tank.  Especially when he has had a rest for nearly 2 months with a broken arm.

Well, $22.5, but who's counting.

Well he didn't cost anything to acquire other then an open-market contract.  If anything, I don't think Burke was prepared for the NHL becoming as dirty and soft as it did.

With Aulie being sent down again today it shows how little use the Leafs have for Komisarek. If Aulie was going to stick with the big club then i could see giving him ice time over Komi, but the Leafs obviously don't think Aulie is ready for steady NHL work. What does that say for Komisarek? He is a highly paid player yet they rate him lower than someone in the AHL.

That's probably more of a roster/waiver issue, no?
