I think at this point he would be open to a trade to just about anywhere but Nonis would have to keep/take some salary. Mike is heading for a buyout.

Every game he spends in the press box decreases his value, especially is he does get bought out and becomes a UFA. At least if you're playing, even if it's in the AHL, you show that you can still be a contributor...

I can't see that as something that increases his trade value. I also can't see that as something that the Leafs or Komi would want.
From the Leafs perspective, you have your 7th dman a guy that has no future with the team in the press box and you don't necessarily worry about him not playing like you would if a kid were there. You also don't want him taking a spot away on the Marlies from a kid who you want down there playing and developing.
From Komi's perspective, he is getting paid not to play so why risk being injured down on the farm when you are anticipating signing on with a team after he is bought out this summer. Not to mention the horrible experience as far as travel goes when your used to the NHL life and the definite blow to the ego.
I suspect they may have bought him out they had any inkling that Kostka, Fraser, and Holzer were all going to pass him on the depth chart.pnjunction said:leafplasma said:louisstamos said:If I'm Komisarek though, I almost ask to be sent to the Marlies - you still get your salary, and it has to be better than not playing at all, wouldn't it? One thing as far as injury goes, isn't it true that the compliance buyouts can't be used on an injured player? That might explain why they keep him firmly planted in the press box (besides the fact that the young guys are better), but doesn't explain why they didn't use the accelerated aka 'Gomez buyout' to get rid of him right away. Maybe they wish they had...
