For Komarov fans: in just finished KHL All Stars game Komarov scored 2 goals and recorded 5 points in 18-16 win for Western conference.

I'm undecided about which part of that statement about the all-star game is most telling of the quality of hockey in the KHL:  1) That it was an 18-16 game, 2) that Komarov got 5 points in it, or 3) that Komarov played in it.

We need him back, he came to play every game. you cant say that about many leafs.

He's actually leading his team in scoring this year too I believe.

But to bring it back a bit.  He has 28 points in 41 games.
For some comparison Ilya Kovalchuk (perennial PPG scorer in the NHL) has 35 points in 37 games.  So it isn't like scoring is the easiest thing in the world.

Komarov came over to North America and had to adjust to a new league.  He was also asked to play hard hitting and defensive hockey for the majority of the time, whereas he plays top line minutes for his team in the KHL.

It's not like goals come easy in the KHL either, there are only a handful of goalies with <.900 SV%.

I haven't really paid attention to this story but why did Komorov leave in the first place if he enjoyed playing in the NHL?

Partially money.  I think the Leafs offered him 1.5M or something like that and the KHL offered 3M.

Straight from the article in the first post, he was asked (basically) this very question:

Did you leave because you wanted top six minutes?

'No no no, I'm not that kind of a player, everything was good with the Leafs and I really enjoyed it there. But I didn't get the offer I maybe wanted, and I wanted to play a lot of minutes over here (in the KHL) because it's an Olympic year and I knew that if I came back to Dynamo I'd get a lot of ice time. It's hard to say really, I liked the team, the city, everything ? coming back (to Russia) was a hard decision.'

It figures you'd stand up for a guy with the initials L.K.  ;)

Just kidding, I loved Leo and would love to have him back on the team.  He knows his role and plays it well.  And it's good to see him show some offensive touch.  My comments were about 95% zinger attempt and 5% actual analysis.  The KHL all-star game actually looked to be very light-hearted, even for an all-star game.  (Skip to 1:45 in the shootout skills here to see a novel shootout attempt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=rkvuWO4DG4g#t=65 )

Man, was that ever garbage. I thought it was embarrassing watching the NHL freestyle shoot-out skills. That takes it to a whole new infantile level.

Komarov won't use his option w/ Dynamo, looks to return to NHL, says @Idasb00t and ping @mirtle.

That's from a European hockey writer. No guarantee he comes back to the Leafs but it seems like he truly loved his time here so I'm sure we'll be near the top of his list if the money is right.

Get real. We now know from Gordon that Randy is not just Randy. He's Flexible Randy. Even so there's a limit beyond which even Flexible cannot go and Komarov is way past it. How would he ever mesh with Orr? /rollseyes/

We all know the right thing here is to get him locked up asap. But lets also remember, this is the Leafs we are talking about. They know how big he was for us, and how much we missed his game, but....  I for one do not expect him back, because its the right move, and the Leafs don't do the right moves.

Oh ya, and he would take Orr's spot and that is a no no.

I still think he gets 3 per from someone.

Yep.  All this 'I love the Leafs' talk is great, but ultimately he's looking to be paid and we have much bigger problems to fix with that money.
