Leafs 2014/2015 Schedule in 10 game chunks

I just had a revelation, it could be a lot worse, what if the Loafs where as bad as the Oilers?

That would suck to be continually worst in the league, but I have to imagine that the Oilers might have some hope for the future with all those #1 picks.  If they get McDavid and can swing some deals and/or free agents on defense and in goal, maybe they'll be back to respectability.  Hard to believe they were in the Stanley Cup Finals not that long ago.

Yeah, though, by sports standards, that was a really long time ago. Not a single player that played for the Oilers that season is still in the organization, and a huge chunk of that roster is retired or playing in Europe.

I guess, but as a Leafs fan, 2006 doesn't seem ages ago to me.

That's mostly because, despite the massive changes in the roster in that time, the results have largely been the same. Pat Quinn was still the Leafs' head coach the season the Oilers made the Cup!

What's happening with the Flames right now could be a preview of what could happen to the Leafs.  They were riding the percentages with terrible possession numbers and now have lost 8 straight.

draglikepull: People ask why I care so much about TOR's Corsi. Here's the result for every team w/ CF% <46% in an 82 game season. http://t.co/IR6znk3LnA

It's also worth mentioning that the Anaheim and Colorado teams that made the playoffs bottomed out the next season. The 07-08 Pens made it to the Cup Finals on the strength of their offence and Fleury's only really good playoff run, and are a pretty serious outlier.

Why do you even bother to watch this train wreck of a team year after year? I mean, its almost like you enjoy discussing all the negative aspects of the Leafs, more than you do watching them play. Am I right, or am I right?

I'll answer for him: same reason you do.

I highly doubt it

It was also about as flukey a Cup Finals appearance as you can get.  They squeaked in as the 8th seed in the West.  They had 16 games go to shootouts (7 wins and 13 OT points in total).  And in the playoffs they rode an incredibly hot goaltender to the Finals.  It wasn't like it was well constructed team.

I don't think people really understood just how good of a defenceman Pronger was too. 21 points in 24 playoff games that year.

I think he had a clause in his contract that each team he went to had to end up in the Finals.

Activated once he got out of St. Louis, but yeah. Kinda crazy that he only won 1 Norris.

Unfortunately for him, he spent most of his career playing against a guy who might just be the best defenceman of all time.

I'm 45 years old, been watching the Leafs since I was about 5 or 6 years old, so a good 40 years of no Cup appearances in my lifetime.  At this point I'll take a Leafs cup whether it's well earned, total fluke, or an inside fix job by the NHL.

I watch because I see lots of positives with this club moving forward. Some people just find the negatives. ::)

I echo same.  Though I'm 50, been watching the Leafs since I was little, and am salivating for them to win it anyhow, somehow, however, whenever...
