Leafs @ Blackhawks - Oct. 19th, 7:00pm - CBC, SN 590

Yeah and like I said the Leafs are playing badly. If both teams were playing well and the Hawks won due to better talent you could make your original statement. The Leafs best players aren't exactly playing their best hockey.

I don't think the question of how well they're playing is unrelated to the question of their talent though. Like I said, neither group is at their best.

5 minutes left and Orr is out with Lupul.

Is this just an FU to the big guys?

Pretty much. No effort from the top guys so taking away ice time.

It's not really. JVR, Bozak, and Kessel are still getting their regular minutes.

Guys being "punished" in the 3rd period:

Troy Bodie, Jay McLement

That's about it.  He's just sticking Orr on lines for no reason.

hope they learn something from this before tuesday...i didn't really expect them to win this game..but i would have liked to have seen some kind of real spark from them ...other than the down two goals in the third period crap...oh well...long season

Well, I sure hope the boys are embarrassed with themselves tonight and actually get to work on fixing the glaring issues with their play.

Players don't always play well, it's not as if the Hawks never lose a game because their talent just won't allow it, sometimes the Hawks play poorly too. Aside from the first period, they weren't playing poorly tonight, the Leafs for the most part were.

Kostka's first goal and Bolland nothing. Only Leafs let their former players light them up I guess

didn't JVR have like two goals against philly in this first game against them as a leaf?  anyway..i'd have to look that up..but leafs definitely do score against their old clubs...i think it's just easier to remember it the other way around.

Sure and my comment reflected on the difference in contributions both teams' top players make even when they're not at their best. That Chicago got secondary scoring is also an issue but not the one I was speaking to.

The Leafs were quite emotionless over the first two periods - they weren't hitting, battling for the puck. Very little fight, and when they match up vs high talent teams like the Pens, Bruins, Wings, Hawks, etc- they need to compensate with tough play and spirit.

And for a team with veyr good special teams, their PK and PP looked very flat tonight with a lot of standing around being useless.

That said - it's one game. Hopefully they bring a better game vs the Ducks at home.

I didn't expect a win tonight, but man am I getting sick of Carlyle hockey.  I've been almost silent about the guy so far, but I'm quickly running out of patience.

Just two hours before the game, Joffrey Lupul told reporters that he and his teammates were ?excited? to measure themselves against the Chicago Blackhawks.

?One of (our) strengths is that we believe that we can go in and outwork hockey clubs and I don?t think we outworked the Chicago Blackhawks tonight,? said Leafs coach Randy Carlyle.

While few expected Toronto to come in to a tough building and steal two points, the coach expected his players to put in an honest effort ? at minimum.

Hard work was a hallmark of last year?s Leafs...That relentlessness hasn?t been present on a consistent enough basis during a recent stretch of games...

?We?ve got a lot better than that,? said Leafs winger Nazem Kadri...That?s not our identity.?

an array of injuries have kept Carlyle from finding any discernible chemistry throughout his forward units.

On the ice, that has translated to an inability to control the puck in the offensive zone for any meaningful length of time.
There has been little or no evidence of a cycle game so far this year.

...poor decision-making in the neutral zone, the Leafs have been getting outshot consistently...they?ve been forced into chasing the game rather than dictating the pace.

?That?s the million dollar question I think right now,? said top-line winger James van Riemsdyk. ?I don?t know if it?s a mindset or what it is, but we just haven?t been able to do it.?

It was an awful game. I am getting annoyed that a team can not get up for a game against the Stanley cup champions. I blame the coach for the lack of motivation. Bernier or savour, allowed 2 week goals and rebound control was awful. Please fix this before Tuesday or we are sunk..
