Well, hopefully, this is hitting bottom.

I think that too sometimes.  Then I start asking myself, how many bottoms are there in a year?
This is no different then any other team in the league. Bad stretches, brutal games.

I guess Florida and Carolina haven't hit theirs yet.
Carolina lost 5 of 6 earlier this year and 4 of 5 not too long ago. They've lost twice to the Sens, got beat 6-0 to CBJ, 7-4 to the Devils. Panthers lost 4 of 5 in Dec,. Lost to the Kraken twice. Lost 8-2 to the Sens. It happens to all teams..
This is heartening. It's not just us.

Hopefully there's full gas left in the tank for tomorrow's game in Columbus. Another very winnable game but we'll see who shows up. Will we get goalied again. Most of the night here recently the better goalie was been on the opposite end of the ice. The Leafs D is what it is. It's not perfect but it's all we've got.

At what point do we split up the 2nd line.  Something about it isn't working.

Other musings.  How come when the Leafs are down we never seen to get score effects power-plays?

Agreed.  I don't understand how Pittsburgh can have 5 the other night, and the Leafs have only had 2.
Leafs had 1 against the Blues. There were many let go in tonight's game as well. What can you do?

What does it matter?  They'll get very few PPs in the playoffs.  Gotta be much better at evens.

First, I'll learn how to skate really well.  Then, I will learn the rule book so that my recollection of the rules is second to none.  Then I will enter into the ref training program.  I will work my way up the ranks.  Toiling in the minors until finally I make the show.  Then I will use my computer skills to assign me to a majority of Leaf games.  Lets see who gets the calls then.  "Oh I'm sorry mister Senator player, I think your jersey is messy looking.  UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT!!!!!"

In just a few short decades, this could be a reality.

I used them though because even with their slumps, they have manged to be 8 and 7 points in front of the Leafs, with only a game in hand.  Also their goal differential is almost +20 to what the Leafs have.  When you talk about dominate teams in the League, they seem to be a step above the Leafs, but I don't think it's a talent thing.  I think the Leafs roster stacks up well against the top teams in the League, so if it isn't a talent thing, then where is the problem?

Talent wise we are up there with a lot of teams. Problem is what we?ve been seeing from this group. Team has no pushback, grit an ingredient that makes it hard to play against. Our team strikes no fear in anyone. The game has changed I get that but it?s still an important element to win. How frustrating is to see opponents take liberty on our goalies or stand in front of the net untouched. In the 1st period in our end Gallagher crosschecks Brodie down no call. Do you ever see much of that from our d? Forwards aren?t any better. Only one who I have seen that seems to be getting better in that department is Matthews and in my opinion is helping his game. Unfortunately when he?s your best player and doing it and not seeing it from the rest that?s a problem. Dubas has assembled a talented team albeit with some areas that need to be addressed but he handcuffed himself. I personally don?t see much difference in this team in how I see it doing come playoff time. Something needs to give and it should have been done after last season. The goal is to win a cup. Maybe the team wins a series and surprises us but I don?t see them going far.

It wasn't a big game for the team in the grand scheme of things, but I think it was a big game for us fans.

And they did what they always seem to do in a big game for the fans, unfortunately.

It felt like they came into this one with ?this?ll be a mail-it-in night off for us? attitude.

And the predictable happened.

Since January 1st the Leafs have an 88.9% save percentage at 5on5 that's 3rd worst in the NHL. Campbell's goals saved above expected has plummeted and Mrazek has a GSAE of -1.9

The defense hasn't been good in the last two months but the goaltending has been a real problem.

I was hoping that Mrazek would help alleviate the pressure on Campbell, but I think that with Campbell's hot start and Mrazek's injuries, that has not occurred. I think you're seeing Jack Campbell come back down to earth and Mrazek struggle to find his game due to a lack of consistent playing time.

Jack Campbell's style, and you can refer back to my posts about him during last year's playoffs, does not lend to consistent, top level play. Not in my eyes anyways. He certainly did prove me wrong for the first few months of the season. And I hope, for the Leafs' sake, that he's just in a lull. If not, they're hooped.

Ya I?m with you on this one. Some say it might be a slump for the team and maybe it is just a blip. I?m not 100% sure. Keefe has to get them playing like they were in December. There was a stretch when I believe Holl was out of the lineup. We were winning, winning convincingly and we?re not giving much up defensively. Probably the best stretch of Leaf hockey I?ve watched in my life. We are playing totally opposite of that now. I don?t get it and it?s why our goaltending has looked mediocre. The coaching staff has to dig out the videos of that run and hopefully get the team to playing that way once again.

When we place your bets on Campbell you are essentially hoping for a Tim Thomas-like resurgence of a guy's career.  I'm not saying they should have re-signed Freddie, and Campbell was the best alternative.  But it's risky.  We'll have to hope.

Shoring up the defense in front of him would help.  Our top 4 hasn't been good enough.
