Since January 1st the Leafs have an 88.9% save percentage at 5on5 that's 3rd worst in the NHL. Campbell's goals saved above expected has plummeted and Mrazek has a GSAE of -1.9

The defense hasn't been good in the last two months but the goaltending has been a real problem.

I was hoping that Mrazek would help alleviate the pressure on Campbell, but I think that with Campbell's hot start and Mrazek's injuries, that has not occurred. I think you're seeing Jack Campbell come back down to earth and Mrazek struggle to find his game due to a lack of consistent playing time.

Jack Campbell's style, and you can refer back to my posts about him during last year's playoffs, does not lend to consistent, top level play. Not in my eyes anyways. He certainly did prove me wrong for the first few months of the season. And I hope, for the Leafs' sake, that he's just in a lull. If not, they're hooped.
We are playing totally opposite of that now. I don?t get it and it?s why our goaltending has looked mediocre.

I don't necessarily agree with this.

At the start of the season, when the team was having extreme swings in performance, they were winning a lot of nights because of the goaltending.
Lately, when they win, it seems to be despite the goaltending.

I haven?t looked into this but I can?t think of a single game this year where the leafs were outplayed and only won because they were bailed out by goaltending.

Even when Campbell?s numbers were out of this world, I never felt he was putting on any kind of goaltending clinic. I always felt he was offering competent goaltending. Now the leafs aren?t even getting that.

Yeah. He helped the team look better than maybe they actually are, but he wasn't really bailing them out.

The Leafs aren't taking care of the puck the way they used to, and they aren't getting it out of the zone as cleanly as they used to.  They used to spend less time in their own end, and more time in the opposing end.  I think some of that is them trying to be too cute with some of their plays, and those being picked off, rather than cycling it the way they used to.

Or it was the other round: the D was playing better and made Campbell look good.

That?s how I see it. I?m only going by memory but I really can?t think of a game where Campbell made them look better than they actually are.
