Leafs @ Canucks - Nov. 2nd, 7:00pm - CBC, TSN 1050

Jeez. Glad I had to miss last night.

Injuries happen and we'll just have to step up that much more. I think we'll see JVR at center -- no other option is better -- so maybe the question is who's available out there on the wing?

What I don't get is why Kassian is leading with his knee on that hit on Bolland. It makes no sense other than to injure.

Same thing happened with Matt Cooke, and at the time Aaron Ward at TSN did a piece on how it's common hitting practice.

Simon Gagne cannot be overlooked.  Some team will pick him up.

http://fansided.com/2013/10/22/simon-gagne-update-retire-will-wait-for-an-nhl-offer/

Since scoring 34 goals in 09 he's tallied 46 goals in the next 193 games since.

I think that's why he's probably still waiting.

We have to weather the storm for 6 games until Bozak comes back. Is burning an asset for a replacement center worth it for those 6 games? I'm thinking no...

And I'm thinking I agree.  It will be a good time to evaluate our centers we have in the system.

It's a combination of that, the multiple concussions and the rest of his injury history. He can't be counted on to be in the lineup over the long haul, never mind be looked at as a significant contributor.

And which centers would those be?

I'm going out on a limb here, but I'd guess the centers currently playing for the Marlies?

Or, slide JVR to C for the 6 games and call up a W. I wouldn't expect him to be brilliant at the position but for 6 games? Why not?

You mean Gregg McKegg, Sam Carrick and, you guessed it, none other than Jerred Smithson? Makes one yearn for the days of Joey Crabb and Lonny Bohonos.

Hey. I'm not saying we don't need to find another center. I was just answering the question.  ;)

OK but isn't what we are talking about that Carlyle says it is like Karlsson's injury which was very public knowledge?  To me that puts an end to speculation unless you want to suggest he's misinformed or lying.

My guess is he misinformed, or, at least, was making a poor comparison. They were similar in that they were both cut on the leg on similar plays, and, my guess, that's what led Carlyle to make the comparison rather than the specifics of the injury itself.

Also, for what it's worth, the speculation isn't coming from nobodies or guys with questionable credibility. It's coming from well connected guys like Bob McKenzie.

Why do people have to nitpick on anything Carlyle says?  He was asked to comment on it just an hour or so after it happened, maybe the information he got from a trainer was "it looks like an Achilles injury", which would be consistent with what Karlsson's injury was.  At the end of the day does it really matter if Carlyle is correct or not in the injury?  Bolland will return whenever he's healed, whether it was achilles related or not.

I was thinking Friday's line up would look like:

JVR / Kadri / Kessel

Lupul / McClement / Kulemin

Raymond / Smith / Clarkson

McLaren / Smithson / Orr

So I just heard Carlyle's comment from Saturday.  He said, and i'm paraphrasing "It's similar to Karlsson's injury, I don't know which tendon it is".

I don't get what's wrong with that statement, he was 100% correct.  It was a tendon injury and ended up not being the achilles tendon.

The issue was more with how it was being represented on twitter and the way people were interpreting it from there. Once the actual quote made its way to people, the discussion ended.
