What he's doing this season at the age of 32 too is just nuts. 1.11 points per game would be his highest since the lockout-shortened season, and his highest in a full season since 09/10. He'll likely win his 7th Rocket trophy this season, which would mean he'll have it won it 5 of the past 6 seasons. If he scores 50 goals this season (he's currently on pace for 49.9) it'll be the 8th time he's done it in his career. Since he's entered the league the 50-goal mark has only been broken 13 other times, and nobody other than him has done it more than twice.
Using Hockey Reference's adjusted numbers:
Gretzky: 758 goals in 1487 games, 5 goal scoring titles
Lemieux: 616 goals in 915 games, 3 goal scoring titles
Bossy: 461 goals in 752 games, 2 goal scoring titles
Richard: 653 goals in 978 games, 5 goal scoring titles
Ovechkin: 690 goals in 985 games, 6 goal scoring titles(7th on the way)
So it's not even that Ovechkin is at the top. It's that he's at the top by a pretty considerable distance. That 65 goal season may very well have been the best goal scoring year of all time.
That's pretty amazing. I'm actually surprised that Richard is so high.
