I'm pretty sure CtB would be more than happy to have to buy me my victory beer.

With McDavid out there I'm actually not sure.

With the calibre of the Leafs' goaltending and top scorers, the team just isn't going to be bad enough to have have strong odds of getting McDavid regardless of who is behind the bench. I mean, unless there are bunch more Clarkson-esque moves made this summer.

I mean, I don't have them pegged to be bottom-5 next season, but you never know. Reimer will definitely be replaced by a worse goalie. Bernier still hasn't felt the load of a true number 1 yet and likely won't repeat his amazing numbers from this season. I'm sure Kessel will still be great but maybe he won't be this great.

So I'm just saying having Randy back next season greatly increases our odds at him.

I don't know about that.  Bernier has played in 50 games this season so far.  If not for his injury he'd be in the top 5 for starters this season so he's facing the workload of a true #1.  For the record, Reimer has never played more than 37 games in one season.  Bernier has already surpassed anything Reimer has done in regular season.

Even if he started each of the last 5 games he'd be 15th.

You said "for starters".

Also, if we're going to ignore Bernier's injury (which may have been caused by his increased workload), I'm sure there's some other goalies who would like 5 games played/started added to their stats too.

You said "for starters".

I said "games played" not "games started".  He's currently also 16th in minutes played.  Add 5 more games and he's in the top 10.  Anyway you slice it he's played as much as most starters in the league.

You may want to check the right stat. He's currently 19th in games started with 44, and 5 more would put him in a tie with Crawford for 15th at 49.

EDIT: Even in terms of TOI, if he had played the entirety of the past 5 games, he'd be 8th, not top 5.

I think GS is more important than GP, but going with your argument you would have to add 5 games to Bobrovsky/Pavelec/Crawford/Price/Lehtonen/Luongo/Bishop, who all missed 5 or more games this season to even that out. Plus 3 for Varlamov.

He's still facing the type of workload that a starter would face in total games and minutes.  He's already played more in one season than Reimer has in any of his seasons (and yes I realize that one of Reimer's seasons was lockout shortened and the other he came up in Jan).  I don't buy this argument that Bernier hasn't felt the load of a true #1 yet.

No, I think yours is.  Carlton was talking about the workload of a true #1, which means starting 60+ games (and doing it multiple seasons but we won't worry about that for now).  Starting games and coming in mid-game are two completely different animals, not least of which is the preparation (something Bernier has commented on this season).  You're the one who took it from starting to total games appeared in, while at the same time framing him as top 5 among starters.

I got what you were saying, I disagreed with it.

What does Reimer have to do with it?
