I said "games played" not "games started".  He's currently also 16th in minutes played.  Add 5 more games and he's in the top 10.  Anyway you slice it he's played as much as most starters in the league.

Yeah, but the issue is the extent to which he's had the workload of a true #1 goalie which is typically measured in starts as opposed to games played. Right now the most games he could start is 52? 57 if he plays the last 5? That's not really a #1's work load no matter how you slice it. Even counting games played that puts him at 63 which would be on the low end for guys who carry their teams.

I'm not even trying to rag on Bernier here. He and Kessel have easily been the MVPs of the team. He's having an elite, Vezina-like season right now. I just don't think it's wise to expect him to repeat that.

I posted this earlier in another thread, but this suggests it's unlikely he will repeat it (he may very well be an exception though): http://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/2014/3/24/5538522/Why-Is-James-Reimer-Struggling

Your link has streaming audio in it, as both I and people sitting near me at work found out.  :P

Oh really?  When I click it it's automatically muted, and my computer sound is muted to begin with.  Sorry about that.

Not a big deal, really. I couldn't find where to shut it off, so I just wanted to point it out for others. :)

NHL.com is the worst for that. They play a gamecentre preview with the sound on a lot of the time I go onto their Scores page.

I have gotten into the habit of stopping that stupid player every time i go to the scores page and but it's so stupid.  Talk about crapping on your fans, blasting us with sample video every time we check the scores all season long.

Like I said, you might want to re-read what I wrote.  ""Bernier has played in 50 games this season so far""

I think GS is more important than GP, but going with your argument you would have to add 5 games to Bobrovsky/Pavelec/Crawford/Price/Lehtonen/Luongo/Bishop, who all missed 5 or more games this season to even that out. Plus 3 for Varlamov.

He's still facing the type of workload that a starter would face in total games and minutes.  He's already played more in one season than Reimer has in any of his seasons (and yes I realize that one of Reimer's seasons was lockout shortened and the other he came up in Jan).  I don't buy this argument that Bernier hasn't felt the load of a true #1 yet.

What does Reimer have to do with it?

why not he is a youngish goaltender.  He should be able to improve if anything.

The difference between Bernier and Reimer is that the first, squares to the puck, smothers rebounds, has a good glove hand and can puckhandle when necessary. The second, is acrobatic and exciting when he is on (like against the Kings), but suffers when he finds himself out of position, gives up rebounds  and has a weaker glove hand and doesnt handle the puck well.  These several differences mean that although Bernies save percentage is not that higher than Reim's, he does give the team a better chance to win. I was at the Coyotes-Leafs game (Leafs won 3-1) and I was right by the Coyote bench.  They were all shaking their heads at Berniers performance, he was outstanding.  I have stated on this site I have been a huge Reimer supporter but Bernier has staked his claim and I don't know if Reimer can handle being a back up?
