Leafs favourites to sign goalie Mantas Armalis?

Lets get Jame T Kirk Riemer back:
Reimer saved all 25 shots he faced in the Sharks' 3-0 win over the Arizona Coyotes. He is now 3-1-0 with two shutouts, a 1.26 GAA and .952 save pct. since coming over at the trade deadline.

Reimer already has a widely accepted nickname. There's no need for new ones.

So this guy is Zoolander?

Re: Reimer: Optimus Reim he still is...

"He came as advertised," Sharks coach Peter DeBoer said of Reimer. "He's a quality starting goaltender in the NHL. That gives us two and it's a great luxury to have. The whole idea when we brought [Reimer] in here was to lighten the load on Jones over the last month here. We've asked a lot of him. And also to make sure we have two legitimate options. That means both guys have to play."

Hey  Busta, he is no longer our property, I can name him whatever I choose. When he comes back to us then I agree it is Optimus ;)

Nicknames stay with the player, not the team.

Honestly, just stop with the nicknames. They're not your forte.

Just so we're clear, you want him to stop right?

Busta, who made you the supreme being of Nicknames.  I threatened to put a moniker on everyone this year, which you will happy to hear I did not do, put it is promised for the coming season. Relax, breath, have some fun 8)

It's not just me, and you know it. We expect a higher standard of nickname here.

I will work diligently on my list for next year to improve the quality of my Nicknames. I will only release the list once and then wait for the nails to be hammered in. :-[

I think a top pairing d-man prospect is more important right now.  That's the piece I'm hoping they add this summer...even if they draft him.

I think of goaltending these days as a final piece sort of thing.

Sure, but I don't see too many options for trading for a young top pairing D. They're just not available without sending similarly aged players with similar ceilings back. Teams always have/make room for high-end defence prospects. Any improvements to the top pairing will almost certainly have to come through the draft. Goalies are a different story. There's less roster spots available, and teams with established starters are going to be more willing to include high ceiling goalie prospects in moves. That doesn't mean those guys will be able to break into the NHL as starters right away, but having them in the system now means less of a scramble to find a potential starter 2 or 3 seasons from now.

I also think of goaltending as the final piece, but I also recognize how unpredictable young goalies are. Having a number moving through the system until one establishes themselves as an above average starter is just smart organizational planning.

I thought it was traditional for hockey teams to build from the goaltender on out.

Goaltenders usually take the longest to develop.  Most goaltenders don't become great until their late twenties early thirties.

Reimer is amoungst the top in save percentage and it took him how many years with the Leafs to grow into who he is today. Sparks has already played 3 or 4 seasons in the minors and although I like him a great deal, he still needs more seasoning, perhaps another year  or two.

Letting go of Reimer is the biggest error the Leafs have done in some time. I think he is one of them keepers, too bad management missed that.

Do you not realize that he is a free agent after this season or that the Leafs are able to offer him a contract if they want?

What does that actually mean though? The Avalanche didn't win their cups by waiting around for a goalie and then building around him. They built their team and then, when Roy was available, they added him as one of the final pieces. Ditto the Red Wings and Vernon/Hasek or the Stars and Belfour or the  Lightning and Khabibulin. The Bruins weren't built out from Tim Thomas, neither were any of the Blackhawks teams built around their various goalies.

If what you're saying is that a top flight goalie should be one of the first pieces a championship team looks for there's really nothing historically to support that.

That's always been more about developing the on-ice strategy rather than building the actual roster.

Too early tell if Sparks is going to be the one for the Leafs, but yes, he needs to play more for more seasoning.  He's got some upside and needs to continue an improvement in his work to be better.

As they say, patience, patience.  :)

Sorry, ladies, Armalis has signed with the Sharks.

They signed this guy instead, Kasimir Kaskisuo. He does have a bit of a Kyle Dubas thing going on, though. Not sure if the ladies will dig that, but I know herman will.  :P
