I actually think Kyper's comments had some merit.  Phaneuf has been very good this year but he doesn't seem to have it within his leadership compass to do something to change the momentum of a game.

Because there's no definition of what doing that is and is always pointed to well after the fact. You never hear about the times Messier didn't "lead" a team back. It's so subjective and relies so much on your teammates performing great too.

+1

And also, no outside observer, such as a commentator or a fan, could possibly know whether a team is playing well due to the intangible "leadership" force because it is not defined by what a player does on the ice.

Raymond-Smith-Clarkson starts

Please have Orr playing with Kadri please have Orr playing with Kadri.

For once I don't hate his 3rd period lines with Kadri playing with Kulemin.  The problem with changing the lines for Carlyle is that he's rigid with JVR-Bozak-Kessel and his bottom 6 consists of:

Smithson, Orr, Ashton, McLement = 74G 0G 3A

Yeah, I said earlier that I wanted Kulemin playing with Kadri, but that still that wasn't the switch I wanted. Raymond should be with those two.

"shoots intentionally wide."

Somehow I doubt that was true.

I reckon I've heard that part of the phrase 4 or 5 times per game with different defensemens name prefixed to it.

Maybe it's some Carlyle super tactic and not a lack of talent or ability or measure of stupidity?

There's been about 3 or 4 times in this period alone where the Leafs lost possession of the puck in the offensive zone because of McClement.

Oh, shooting intentionally wide can definitely be a smart tactic when performed correctly. I just have my doubts that Fraser can aim any of his shots like that.
