I obviously didn't catch the first two periods, but the numbers look like the had an impact.

The couple of times he got caught out too long showed he still has a ways to go to acclimate to NHL speed and took 2 penalties as a result.

He appears to be working well with Kadri at the moment (and elevating the line exactly where they are weak -- see exits and entries); my theory is that with Nylander not fully up to game speed, his play now actually matches Kadri's preferred game speed. Kadri likes to meander to look for seams and openings (it's why Marner worked well with him last season). When Nylander is back to full speed, he should be back with Matthews as they're both more direct about their play cutting through defenses with speed and handling.

He still looked pretty awful but was able to contribute on the scoresheet.

He is still definitely not in form, and looked pretty bad for most of the game. But there were flashes that showed his timing was coming back, if not his fitness. In 5 more games, I'd guess he'll be back with Matthews.
