Leafs @ Hurricanes - Jan. 9th, 7:00pm - SN, SN 590

Oh....and if Reimer plays, expect to see the reason why the Leafs made the playoffs last season and why so many fans were surprised Nonis decided he needed an upgrade in net.

I've never seen Reimer sour and angered as he was yesterday in his interview.  Surely seems like he is motivated to prove Carlyle wrong once given the chance.

Should start keeping a list of the good players Carlyle has managed to alienate.

They have officially squandered it.  All those teams behind them have caught up and will likely pass the Leafs soon.

Yup. The Leafs could potentially be passed by 4 teams between now and the end of play on Sunday.

jonasTSN1050: James Reimer makes his first start since Dec. 21 tonight in Carolina.

jonasTSN1050: Clarkson forced to exit morning skate after only a few minutes. Didn't appear happy. Status tonight back in doubt.

I've all but stopped expecting good things from this team, but I won't stop watching because apparently I don't know any better. :P

I won't stop watching because I have nothing better to do.

Was D'Amigo-Ashton-Orr actually a line in practice, or just the 3 players left over?

I suppose if Trevor Smith recovers soon he'll take over the 3rd line as he's set up 1/3 of Clarkson's goals this year IIRC, and the 4th line will become D'Amigo-McClement-AshtoHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Ashton was called up after practice, so we never actually saw him on line. However, with the news that Clarkson might not be able to play tonight we'll probably see a 4th line of McLaren-Ashton-Orr, which is just awful.

Smith probably won't return until after Bolland's back.

At least we'll only have to see it for 1:38.

I honestly do not remember such discrepancy in playing times with any coach since the Gilmour era. Obviously I could be remembering it incorrectly, but other than Burns playing Gilmour 30 mins a night, I really don't remember seeing players out there for 4 mins and less a game.

I used to lose it on Quinn for playing Lumme, and which c coach was it that insisted on playing Wozniewski.

But Carlyle is driving me batty. This may be the worst 'talented' Leafs team I've ever seen play. If Maurice and Wilson and even Quinn his last year here had the goaltending they're getting this year, they would have made the playoffs probably 7 or 8 times in that span.

Objects in mirror are closer than they appear.

Ashton will play centre tonight, Siegel says he played centre for Toronto on Nov 15.

He played 5:10 that night and took 3 face-offs - the 6th highest total on the team that night. That was during the JVR at centre experiment and the team dressed McClement, Smith and Smithson that night. If he played centre that night, it was as the team's 5th centre.

Tonight's surprise lineup:

Lupul - JVR - Kessel
Kadri - Bozak - McClement
D'Amigo - Ashton - Kulemin
McLaren - Orr - Fraser

Gleason - Ranger
Reimer - Bernier
Bozak - Orr

Phaneuf

I'm sure it wasn't for the whole game, but I'm positive I've seen Ashton take a few shifts at centre with McLaren and Orr earlier in the season. Not that it means he should be playing the position, but it is something Carlyle has tried before.
