Ah, see I thought you were just being nice like "Sure sure crazy old poster dude....we can totally put a superstar on every line... how's that green jello?"
Haha, I agreed with the premise, but that was not how I would've executed the vision is all.
Each line needs to have a mix of player-types to fulfill roles within the unit, but should also match/complement one another stylistically so they have an identity to play within. This eases the decision-making burden of playing a stupid-fast game like hockey, because if you're reading and reacting, you're already chasing.
Why did I proffer this lineup? I guess it matches my lineup building philosophy. I think each line presents an above average, top-6ish line of attack with varying degrees of defensive capability and could conceivably work like the early Vegas squads. Short, hard shifts, rather than the self-paced languid 50+ seconds Marner has been rolling. 12-15 5v5 minutes each for full season/playoff run longevity.
Bunting - Matthews - Ho-Sang
Matthews is a triple-threat player unto himself, and he is augmented here by the playmaking and transition speed of Ho-Sang, and the dirty work net drive of Bunting. It's a line that can play fast break hockey, or cycle you down in the zone. Ho-Sang isn't as good as Marner overall, but his shot is way better. Matthews doesn't need much.
Kerfoot - Nylander - Kase
This one is more of a rush line with their significant speed advantage, but everyone can transition the puck, Kerfoot is fine as a third-man to help chain offensive sequences, Kase is dependably always on the puck, and Nylander is at his best as the go-to weapon from the middle.
Ritchie - Tavares - Spezza
These guys play at the same pace: not fast. But two of them are great at controlling the puck, two of them are great at scoring in tight, two of them are great at scoring from a distance, and two of them are excellent on the face off. Stuff this line into OZ starts
Engvall - Kampf - Marner
Defense first line; Marner is an excellent rush player and breakaway artist, and is at his best embroiled in chaos. This line has a defensive conscience in Kampf, very fast NZ movers, and if there was anyone who could really benefit from the extra time a magical Marner pass might materialize, it's Engvall's cannon of a wrister.
As the situation calls for it, we can always dip back into:
Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Kerfoot-Tavares-Nylander
Engvall-Kampf-Kase
