5+ games for unintentionally intentionally kneeing someone, especially considering Spezza has a fairly clean sheet in terms of suspensions and fines? Seems excessive.

I think Dad knew exactly what he was doing there...I'm sure he got a pat on the back in the room, and he'll just take a little break here for some games heading into Christmas.

EDIT:  Berg is sad beat me to this...

I don't have a huge problem with an in-person/zoom hearing for the Spezza hit.  It was clearly retaliatory and did go up high although I did feel like he got more shoulder than head.  He didn't have to go after a guy in that position.

I mean the easy thing would have been for the refs to do their job and call a major penalty for kneeing when Pionk injured Sandin but that's asking the refs to not be incompetent.  Then Pionk could have just answered the bell and fought someone and the whole thing would have been over but instead he went and hid.

It will be a nice break for the old man. Let's send him some slippers.

Yeah I mean at the end of the day this isn't really that big of a deal. Might cause a cap issue for a game once Mikheyev/Mrazek come off LTIR but no biggie. It's just frustrating to consistently see how inconsistent DOPS and reffing is.

Interesting comments by Keefe on Woll.  I think he's blowing some sunshine there to keep a young guy's confidence from tanking, and the Leafs D didn't do Woll any favors.  But I thought his rebound control was bad and he was out of position a lot.

I do agree with Keefe's distinction between Campbell getting run and the hit to Woll's head last night.

Do you get cap relief for suspended players?

Of course he is. The 2nd goal wasn't good but he still made a lot of good saves last night. Leafs gave up a lot of prime chances.
Mrazek will be back soon.

He certainly wasn't good but I do think that he still made a number of good saves.  I agree with you that he was kicking a fair number of rebounds into dangerous spots.  Not going to hold that game against him though.  Tired team on a road back to back with a 2nd period that was played like a shitshow and the 3rd period that was a literal shitshow.

Like I sorta said after the Colorado game, I think we need to remember that #3 goalies generally speaking aren't in the NHL for a reason. Woll's done a good enough job for what was expected out of him. Hopefully Mrazek's back soon and Woll can use this experience to finally put together a solid stretch of games in the AHL and maybe develop himself into more of a legitimate back-up option in the future.

Totally agree. Total garbage. But I hope Spezza goes into that meeting saying he would do it again if he had to do it all over again.

Uh maybe wait until after it's decided but I'm sure he'll level off at them for the shitty officiating.

Spezza will blast them no doubt in my mind.

I think what he will actually say is, he was going to hit the body but Pionk fell down on and his hip caught him in a vulnerable position as he couldn't change angles in time.

That's his defence...then after they give him 5 games he'll blast them lol..

Yeah, it's not good, but I'm glad it happened. If the refs aren't calling it, you cannot be a punching bag.

The Sandin hit especially was predatory, that cannot go without pushback if the refs aren't intervening.

The notion that any of that last night wasn't excellent for the prospects of this team going forward is way off base.

If they've essentially clinched by the next Jets game in March, I'd have the full battalion from the Marlies called up.
