Whatever happened to that guy?

Cut loose from the Sun & HNIC. Went to FOXSports and theScore. Cut loose from there. Wrote a book that came out a year ago:

"I Am Not Making This Up: My Favourite Hockey Stories from a Career Covering the Game"
(doesn't appear to have sold well)

Haven't seen nor heard from him since (and I haven't missed him).

Cheers.

The Leafs tend to have two or three types of media gatherings:
1. More formal press conference to announce management/coaching personnel changes or a big trade
2. Questions for Wilson after the game - often in the room and at the podium where press conferences are held when they're at home and in a scrum on the road
3. Gameday or practice press scrums

Has anyone ever seen Damien Cox at #2 or #3 (in particular)?

I have not.

Just checked Twitter here on the Left Coast and discovered I 'm allegedly in a peeing match with @LeafsBB20. Thought he was mad at @mirtle.

Have already advised @mirtle to rent barn in Lake Placid.

Found him on twitter, he's listed as "retired"

I can't wait until this Leafs/reporters riff hits Al-Jazeera to get their viewpoint on it.

You may think Wilson & Burke are being childish as well, but how often can you take reporters constantly bashing you, calling for your head, ripping you in the media?

But BB & RW have forgotten the cardinal rule: the media needs them more than they need the media.  All they have to do is ignore the Coxes of the world and it will drive them certifiably crazy.  Going down in the tweetpits with them is a losing proposition every time.

If someone accuses another of lying and there's no response from the accused, that can lead to people believing the accusation and the issue festering.

On that basis, I think a response was warranted.

To me, this type of response is fair and appropriate:
LeafsBB20Brian Burke
Our Coach told the media the starter. He told me as well. James says he feels good and our Coach makes the switch...

LeafsBB20Brian Burke
...Making a goalie switch is not just our Coach's prerogative, it is his duty.

It could have ended right there.

These type of responses are getting down in the mud with the clowns:
coachrw63Ron Wilson
Favorite movies: Liar,Liar; The Invention of Lying; Big Fat Liar. HaHa!

LeafsBB20Brian Burke
I love the quote about the liars in sports. Many gainfully employed in the media.

Some may find them entertaining. Some may find them lacking class and/or "Going down in the tweetpits with them".

You see, though, Cox is not a reporter.  He isn't a journalist.  He is just a commentator.  An entertainer with a byline in a tabloid, which ain't much.  Every one of his columns is an opinion piece.  That's what I'm talking about when I say ignore him and his ilk.

If a reporter asks Wilson or Burke at a press conference about X, Y, or Z, then they ought to answer the question or else formally decline to answer.  But tweets are not an adequate venue for exchange of meaningful information,  they're nothing but snippets of opinion or trivia.

If i had Wilsons job i would mess with the press a 100 times worse. they craped on the leafs for years, they never printed a positive thing, and now that were so good that were big news they start kissing butt. they nag for every detail, they even make up things, i'm sure the Coach is tired of the crap, and i would be as well. I think its time for the press to grow up and report the team like they should. I know there are a few good one out there but this is directed at the groop of clowns that keep putting there feet in there mouthes.

One idea would be to have Phaneuf arrive at the ACC in a leg cast and crutches.  The Leafs don't make any comments on the injury for a day or so and let the media run their usual ridiculous reports - Phaneuf out indefinitely, Phaneuf broke leg at home of mistress, Leafs doomed as Phaneuf out for season etc.  Let the BS run wild, then have Phaneuf show up at the ACC healthy as a horse the next day.

Another thought would be for the Leafs to have a fake press conference to make a big announcement like Wilson got fired, while in reality, he is still the Leafs coach.

Next home game, put lots and lots of laxatives in all the food they serve in the media gondola.

Or, unleash 20 King Cobra's in the media gondola and lock the door.

"He wants to control what you read, what you think, what you perceive to be the truth."

...

"It?s time for Burke to calm down and take a leadership role in the ongoing spat between local media and the Maple Leafs."

Hysterical.  Potness, kettledom, blackicality.

I think Burke's biggest embarrassment is the whole barn story. Always thought he was a thug and a bully and that proved it.
