Leafs @ Penguins - Dec. 16th, 7:00pm - SN, SN 590

I don't understand why Carlyle wants them to play that way.  Every time they came to the blueline they dumped it why is clearly what they are being told to do.

Yeah. I mean, it's a play that can be very effective when you have guys coming with speed, but, with everyone already stopped at the blue line waiting for it to happen, you're just giving the other team the puck.

I dunno. I don't think keeping the puck in the zone is too big a play to ask for.

It seems like just about anything with the game on the line is too much to ask for.

Another deflating loss,  feels like the LA game.  Frustration level is at a peak.

Well, the thing is, lots of people had a hard time celebrating the victories the Leafs didn't deserve. So can we celebrate the losses they didn't deserve, or are we required to just mope about everything?

5 on 5 this team really sucks.  I have absolutely no idea why Carlyle insists on playing Franson-Phaneuf on the PP together.  They aren't good together.

Bad teams do the same thing over and over again even if it isn't working.  That's what the Leafs did tonight.  Absolutely no response to the Carlyle goal...or to the two devastating hits on D'Amigo for that matter.

I dunno,  I just hope we're close to evening out soon.  :p

In another note, down a goal this team is hopeless, that post we hit was the end of the game for me.  We always get empty netted after no pressure in the final 2 minutes

I don't know. They played much better against LA than the did tonight. While they weren't awful tonight, they weren't good either. Against a healthy Pens lineup, the score probably wouldn't have been close.

We do. But given our problems controlling the puck in general, it's not too surprising.

So, with 7 empty net goals given up, and at least one pulled goalie that didn't result in a goal against, the Leafs must be at the bottom of the league in clawing their way back into  games...

They deserved at least a point tonight, but "deserved" don't mean squat.  It just had to be Crosby, too.

Did they though? I didn't watch all that closely, but they seemed to have spent much of the night either stumbling into the zone or dumping the puck in to Fleury who played it back out.

So what you're saying is we're keeping a lot of games close going into the last minute?

I can't quite tell from NHL.com's team stats how that works. They've got Leading/Trailing 1 and 2 numbers and percentages, but that's a lot of columns.

But based on EN goals against, looks that way. Last week, I looked up the last time they scored a goal with their goalie pulled (Edmonton in October, I think), and recall at least one game when they didn't get scored on but didn't tie it up either. So, 1 of 8?
