Carlton's right though; Orr's here to stay. Though I suspect Nonis would be open to more skill, less thugs; he doesn't have the right coach. Orr was sent down because of Wilson. With Carlyle, he's an integral part of the team.

Orr had only played 5 games in the first 3 months or so of the season and was averaging 4:28 minutes of ice-time prior to being waived. On Carlyle's team he's a fixture in the line-up and gets 6-8 minutes. It's really night and day. I looked up an article on Orr being waived and found this quote from Wilson:

?[Orr] knows what?s going on,? Leafs coach Ron Wilson said in December. ?He?s an intelligent guy. He sees most of the teams we?re playing don?t have toughness in their lineup, and for us to be successful, our fourth line has to play 10, 11, 12 minutes and use their speed. And the set of skills they have right now is to be good penalty killers, as well.?

Man, if only he had a goalie...

Yeah how successful was wilson with that skilled 4th line?  Whats that he drove a mac truck off a cliff.  We shouldn't listen to Wilson about anything; except maybe about being a cranky old fart.  He had good goalies too, he just didn't really care if his team played defense.  The monster was suppose to be a good goalie out of sweden, toskala did well in SJ, and he had Reimer.  Wilson just didn't see the importance of toughness.

SeanFitz_Gerald @SeanFitz_Gerald

David Clarkson down on the ice, working on his skating with Barb Underhill. Frazer McLaren also on the ice, working with pucks. Pucks.

LOL

"Pucks" is the nickname of our new fighting coach.

He probably saw the importance of skill being worth more than toughness.

Reimer actually put up a similar season as he did last season in his first, pre-concussion season under Wilson, in a similar number of games.

Gustavsson has similar or worse stats with the Red Wings.

I think it's more that he, rightfully, didn't equate fighting with toughness - at least, the kind of toughness that helps you win hockey games.

Good point.  I should have said fighting not toughness, general toughness is a good thing to have.

How much do we save if we send Orr down and keep Broll up?

I'd say I would save about an hour of sleep a night.

Oh, you meant cap space. About $335k. Orr's not going anywhere though.

When I get hired as GM it will be my first move though. Should be by Christmas.
