Leafs sign Bogosian [1 year, 1M]

I'm actually a little surprised that the Lightning brought Schenn back instead of Bogosian. Bogosian played more games in the playoffs (20 vs. 11) and averaged more ice-time (17:39 vs. 10:51). Schenn only got $800k from the Lightning but I mean would Bogosian not have taken that to stay there?

Great sign. Dubas is on fire.

I still have no idea how he will get cap compliance but so far, so good.
Just did a quick calculation on CapFriendly. Leafs have 2.6 mill to sign Dermott, Mikheyev and have  a 21 man roster.  Keep in mind Engvall is waiver exempt for 15 more games so they could potentially save 500k on a minimun contract, sending him down. They're good.

Perfectly reasonable 6/7 defenceman. As long as he?s not really relied on to be more than that, it?s a good signing.

As long as he keeps Marincin in the minors I'm good

Man Bogosian's only 30 years old? I pegged him to be closer to 35. Playing for crap teams your whole career really does a number.

Same draft as Luke Schenn, Alex Pietrangelo, Doughty and Stamkos.
Dang, you beat me to it.

;D
It's kind of amazing that 3 of those first 5 draft picks won a Cup on the same team. Plus all of the top 5 picks have won a Cup. I'd be a little surprised if either of those coincidences have happened in any other draft year.

Okay, which set should we choose from...

Victor Hedman
Matt Duchene
Evander Kane
Brayden Schenn

or

Patrik Laine
Pierre-Luc Dubois
Jesse Puljujarvi
Olli Juolevi

OR

Connor McDavid
Jack Eichel
Dylan Strome
Noah Hanafin

I think

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl

And then Lehtonen/Bogosian as a penciled in 3rd pairing with room for Sandin or Liljegren to make the jump is actually a pretty solid defense.

Yeah that's basically what I see. I also doubt Bogosian plays every single game so that 3rd pairing will see some rotation throughout the season.

Exactly. And it's solid depth in the #7 spot if Dermott sticks around or one of the young players makes a case for the job in camp.

I tell you, it sure makes you wish the Leafs had a young second round or so high scoring CHL centre who you could think of for the 3rd line because this team is shaping up sort of nice.
Literally what I was going to say. We need depth. We don't want any scenario where Marincin gets drawn in if we can help it.

Guess that explains that a bit. Interesting.

I thought the same thing.  Only explanation I could come up with was that Schenn has been up and down between the NHL and AHL the last few seasons and has not made much of a fuss.  When Bogosian was sent to the AHL by the Sabres, he refused to report.

They were both likely to be 6/7/8th option on D so depending on cap and need might need to be shipped to the A.  Schenn has shown that he's willing to accept the assignment, Bogosian has not.

I wonder then if something that appeals to Bogosian is that if the same thing were to happen to him here, being sent to the AHL doesn't actually involve moving cities.

I'm thinking that he looked at the current roster and felt he was safe...  ;D

Signing with the Leafs is pretty clearly the highlight of Bogosian's career.

Remember the look on McDavids face when Edmonton selected him. I thought he was going to cry.  Can't wait to see him in Blue and White. The boys want to come home and play for the Leafs.

Buddy got tired of being turnstiled by Nylander and Matthews. I respect this brilliant move.

That's completely untrue. He knew 100% he was going to Edmonton.

I think Highlander was referring to the draft lottery, which was sad and amazing
