Leafs trade Lindholm for Nic Petan

A Brown/Zaitsev for Larsson thing would have been interesting. I have a hunch that if that were the bare bones the Leafs would have had to toss a thing or two in.

Given that Zaitsev's only value to Edmonton is he can't leave for a few years, yeah.  Going from Hall to Brown/Zaitsev would be one hell of a downgrade.

I should point out this guy has a worse track record at these things than Eklund, which is obviously saying something.

This is magnificent.

I was pretty sure the big iron in the fire for the Leafs was with Carolina.

Me to Herman, thought we would find a way to get a RHD off of them.

Same contract as Moore. Assuming those 2 and Gauthier make up the 4th line next season they'll have a combined AAV of $2.23mil.

Yay, a new Leivo
Good cheap signing. Could be a replacement for Brown. If it doesn't work, they can send him down. What we do get is a motivated player who has to know, this could be a last chance kind of deal to prove himself.

Petan's qualifying offer would have been $917,831, so he's taking a decent chunk less than that for the security of the 2nd year. It's also possible/likely that this extension is a 1-way deal while the QO offer would have been a 2-way contract.

I think Moore could be moved up the lineup, especially if Kappy or Johnsson ask the the moon or get traded for a D man. He could also take Marleau's place should he need the rest. I like the kid, all effort.

Hard to imagine what sort of scouting could have been done a Petan considering how little he has played over the last few years. What stood out that prompted this move and signing? I just would have thought a guy within might be more inline like a Bracco?

They may see Bracco as more then a 4th liner. He's also a winger, where Petan is a centre. There's something the Leafs see in him, obviously, they have been able to watch him for almost a month now. Cheap signing, can be put on the Marlies so all good or plucked off waivers if he can't cut it. Can't have enough depth.

I guess. Apart from that one goal, all I've seen him do is get pushed off the puck with one hand from opposing defencemen. I can't see him being next year's Ennis, so I'm a bit baffled why he was acquired period, let alone extended. I'd sooner have Engvall up with the club.

I'm with you Frycer.  But not a big thing one way or the other.

Chump change, if he works out great, if not send in the archers.

Noticed the same thing when Petan gets knocked off the puck easily.  A guy his size should be using his speed to try and avoid the corners & big d-men.

That lone goal which he scored is a perfect example of being at the right place at the right time using your speed for sheer advantage.  Obviously Dubas must know more than we do about Petan?s Leafian potentials.
