Locked out Leafs Tracker

No other Leafs have publicly stated that they intend to play elsewhere during the lockout. Komisarek though has said that he might return to school in order to finish his degree in sports management and communications.

Five Things I Tell Myself When I Get Mad About The Lockout:

1) It burns a year off Komisarek's contract.
Signing Komi was Burke's worst move as GM of the Leafs.
2) It burns a year off Burke's contract.
He's signed until Nov. 2014 according to Wikipedia.
3) It burns a year off Phaneuf's contract.
My least favorite player on the team. I still can't believe he wears the C. What a disgrace.
4) Gardiner will get a year to work with Dallas Eakins
Jake is an elite skater. I love the idea of him being properly developed and rounding out the rest of his game in a tough league under a first-rate coach.
5) I may develop other interests.
I don't know about this one. Hockey is about the only good thing I've ever associated with winter in Ontario. If the Marlies are playing on a Saturday night and there's a game day thread here and a decent feed I'll likely get right into it.

I guess we could add - Kulemin finds his game with Malkin  - playing with a hot offensive player may build confidence missing from last year.

BTW - I have a Brian Glennie story. May as well tag it here. When I was kid, my generous older brother took me to quite a few games. Being about seven or eight, my attention would wander and while staring off into the stands, I was hit by the puck in the forearm. My bro asked me if I was ok, I said "Yup, just swell" (or something) - I do remember my brother's exact words though - "You're just lucky it was a Brian Glennie shot."

Sounds like Kulemin is off to a good start with Malkin. That might be the spark he needs to get back on his game.

?? Any links? Can't find anything on him. Thanks.

Grabo goin' over...

#Leafs' Grabovski fills the last position open to NHL players with CSKA joining Datsyuk and Bryzgalov http://cska-hockey.ru/userfiles/images/vnovost(1).JPG ?

Grabbo may be a smaller dude, but he looks jacked!  Curious to see what he can do in the K.

RedLeaf - here you have a video of Kulemin first KHL goal this season - nicely working with Malkin (Nr. 71) - the goal was basically all his, but Kulemin positioned himself well and capitalized on Malkin work.

I try to update you regularly on Kuli as well as on Grabbo once he joins Datsyuk (not a bad guy to play around either) in CSKA.

Malkin's a whirlwind out there but Kuli is just a rock. They work very well together.

Thanks drummond. Man I miss hockey. :( And its only week 2 of the lock-out.

Once this strike is over lets trade Kulimen to Pittsburg for Crosby...LOL....  Or trade Kadri, Colborne, and half a dozen others to Pittsburg for Malkin..we gotta laugh...go Marlies go.

I figured Kulemin would have been a good chip to play for Staal.  To bad he wanted to play with family.

Paul Maurice, head coach of Metalurg Magnitogorsk, decided to separate Malkin and Kulemin. Nik has played last game (6-1 win against Lev Prague) on the 3rd line and was held scoreless, played 15 minutes and did not register a single shot on goal. Kulemin plays with Justin Hodgman and Pavel Zhdunov. Not a good news.

Grabbo, however, scored in his debut (3-4 loss to Traktor Chelyabinsk)

Good story. I guess we both got into being Leaf fans around the same time.

Even after he had a good season?  I don't understand the hate, there are much worse players on the team.  To call him a 'disgrace' is such an exaggeration, he's done nothing disgraceful.

Agreed. There are lots & lots of players on this team you can dig into for poor performance. Phaneuf & Kessel in general take too much heat in my opinion. Its not their fault the team has a problem in bringing in talent around them.

Well said! But get prepared to say it again soon.. Someone shall hate tomorrow as well.. lol

Kule scored his 2nd goal of the season last night, taking a nice pass from Cal O'Reilly (Ryan's brother) and one timing it home. The goalie got a piece of it with the blocker but not enough to keep it out. It turned out to be Metallurg's only goal of the night as they lost 2-1 in a shootout.

Video:

Highlights of the goal starts at 2:30 with several great angles. Good positioning, timing and instincts on the goal by Kule although obviously O'Reilly made a great play.

I agree with him pretty much completely.  Cutting player salaries across the board drastically while the league as a whole is profitable is not fair.  It is dumping the failure of bad franchises on the players while handing even more money to profitable ones.  Players should take big cuts to make Bettman's desert disaster in Pheonix profitable while the top teams rake in cash?  No way.
