Locked out Leafs Tracker

The Official page of the Avtomobilist is not reporting anything on Lupul, but fans in the forum talk vividly about that. Some Russian servers are saying it is deal done. Avtomobilist does not have any NHLer on the roster, but they have 4 foreigners (2 Czech, 1 SLovak and 1 Canadian)

Btw. Yekaterinburg is hard place to live. Winnipeg in February is warm place compared to Yekaterinburg.

The team is dead last in the standing and fans are joking on their forum that he should bring Phil Kessel with him. Anyway, it seems he will be very much welcome addition.

Edit: Russian fans are also commenting on his uneligibility. The speculation is that being nominated for an award may be good enough (Lupul was nominated in 2012 for Masterton Trophy)

Edit II: According to Mirtle a KHL spokesman said it is possible to waive the strict definition of the rule in some cases,  which likely apply to Lupul given his injuries are what kept him out of 150 NHL games.

His agent has said that the league made an exception because he was an all-star last season.

In tonight?s action - Grabbo with a goal in 3-5 CSKA loss and Kuli with an assist in 5-2 Magnitogorsk win. The guys seem to start piling up the points.

Yekaterinburg (Lupul?s lock-out team) just lost another game.
 
Update after Thursday and tonight?s action in Europe: Grabbo with 2 assists, Clarke MacArthur recorded an assist in his debut in Germany and Cody Franson scored a game winner

EDIT: after the weekend (Mac with another assist, Cody Franson again -2 in a 4-0 loss, he is second worst on the team in +/-)

From tonight?s KHL action: Joffrey Lupul debut

Joffrey played his first game for Avtomobilist, did not scored, registered one shot and in the shoot-out went first and missed. Anyway his ice-time was solid, actually 4th highest with 22:04. He played on the second line with two Russians - Evgeny Lapenkov (28 years, also playing first game for Avto after being traded from Yugra, 9pts (0+9) so far this season) and Fyodor Malykhin (22 years, 10 pts (4+6) so far this season). Avtomobilist lost 1-2 in SO.

Grabbo and Kuli both held scoreless
 
Update as of Friday:

Lupul did not travel with Avtomobilist to play Barys Astana as he does not have a Kazakh visa, his team lost 7-2. Grabbo scored a goal in 6-1 CSKA win. Kuli was held scoreless. Clarke MacArthur scored a goal and added two assists in 5-2 Eispiraten win in Second German League. Cody Franson earned a point in 5-6 OT loss to Modo. Carl Gunnarson got his first assist for his home town team Orebro in Second Swedish League.

Joffrey Lupul recorded his first ever point in the KHL tonight, an assist against Yugra in 1:2 SO loss. Joffrey also scored in the shoot-out, he was the only Avto player who scored, unfortunately it was not good enough as Yugra players converted 2 out of 3 shots and won the SO. Anyway, Joffrey is starting to be a key player for Avto. Today his ice-time was by far the biggest among the forwards.

In general, good day for the Leafs players
- Leo Komarov assisted on two Dynamo Moscow goals in 5-3 win against Severstal
- Also Grabbo assisted on two goals in 3-2SO win of his CSKA against Torpedo
- Nik Kulemin scored game winner in 5-1 Magnitogorsk win against Barys
- Lupul recorded an assist again, but his Avtomobilist just keeps loosing, this time 3-6 to Avangard Omsk
- Clarke MacArthur and Cody Franson were kept scoreless

Komarov scored his first KHL goal of the season yesterday in his second game. Despite Leo's goal, Dynamo surprisingly lost 2-5 to Atlant. After the game Komarov was getting a lot of praise from Ovechkin. His aggressive and gritty play complements Ovy and B?ckstr?m nicely and gives them room to utilize their skill. If the success of that line continues in the KHL, I wouldn't be opposed to trying Komarov out on an offensive line for a game or two on the Leafs too if/when the NHL season finally starts.

Kule continues to produce consistently, scoring again today in Metallurg's 4-3 OT loss (they seem to lose in OT a lot). This gives him season totals of 24 GP, 9 G, 8 A, 17 P, +12

I know +/- is an overrated stat, but it must say something that the next highest player on the team is a +7, and the next highest fwds are only a +5. At the very least, he is continuing to provide the same solid two-way game he displayed here.

Lupul also had a goal and assist in a 6-3 win for his team.

Clarke MacArthur scored 2 goals (one on power play) in Eispiraten 5-3 win over Rosenheim. He has 10 pts (4+6) in just 8 games, but keep in mind it is only 2nd German League. Leo Komarov continues enjoying his time on the Ovechkin-Backstrom line as he assisted on 2 of 3 goals Ovie scored on Saturday. Grabbo also keeps his production rolling as he added another assists giving him 17 pts (8+9) in 21 games.
 
Today, Kuli had 5 point (2+3) night in 7-2 romp over Dynamo Riga. He scored both his goals on power-play. I guess, playing with Malkin on PP helps a lot, he already scored 7PPG for Metalurg. Also Komarov must be loving playing with Ovechkin and Backstrom - last time 2 assists on Ovie?s goals, today Ovie and Backstrom returned the favour and prepared a goal for Leo. Also Grabbo scored a goal in CSKA win over Slovan. Lups was held scoreless so was Cody Franson in Sweden.

Another intereting news is that Carl Gunnarsson playing for second league Orebro will play for the national team in Channell One Cup in Helsinki and Moscow (Dec 13 to Dec 16). The tournament is the second part of the Euro Hockey Tour. Russian roster is not known yet (Belarus is not part of the EuroHockey Tour so Grabbo is out of question, Kuli, however, could make Russian team). Anyway, good experience for Carl.

After his 5 point effort Kulemin was held scoreless tonight. Grabbo, however, in an excellent match against Ovechkin and Co. scored a goal and assisted on one of Datsyuk?s goals giving him 20pts (10+10) so far this season. Dynamo Moscow went on 5-0 early lead. Game over? No! With Datsyuk and Grabbo leading the charge CSKA almost tied the game but Ovechkin scored into the empy net so Dynamo won over city rival CSKA 6-4.
