Luongo

Anyone read that Cox article suggesting the Leafs make an offer sheet to Schneider?  Is he nuts?  How many first round picks would we have to give up to get him, and then what if he's not the guy ?

Cox is suggesting the Leafs offer sheet Vancouver as a tactic to force Vancouver's hand at dealing Luongo, not to actually get Schneider.

The offer Cox suggested, if the Canucks accepted, could get them four 1st rounders as compensation, and we'd have an unproven goalie to a long, expensive contract.

Cox's arguement is that the Canucks would rather keep Schneider.  I'm not saying what Cox is saying makes sense, it's crazy.  And yes there is the risk that Vancouver calls the bluff and let Schneider walk for the 4 first rounders.

ohhhh....maybe they keep historical panthers profiles on their website?  And the stats are automatically updated from the nhl.com database?

They do. You can do that with any player for any team they've played for previously. For instance:

End of day, Luongo has to make sure he doesn't end up in CHI...with AHL Wolves. Right now, tho, FLA and TOR think VAN asking price too high.

...if FLA doesn't pan out, doors to TOR or elsewhere are not by any means closed. Step by step process that hasn't be formalized in any way.

Lot of Luongo talk about waiving/not waiving NTC. Here's my take: Process has yet to be that formal. His obvious preference is FLA, but...

Proteautype: Here's the problem with Luongo refusing to waive his no-trade clause to go to Toronto or Chicago: About 27 other teams have no-want clauses.

Seriously, just sign Huet and use the savings to sign Suter to stupid money.

Edit: Or somebody else. Or, just use that money at another time.

It was tweeted that Vancouver wanted two first rounders + something else for Luongo...

The + must have been a bag of crack, you know, to replenish what he's been smoking...

Hey, don't shoot the messanger...

It was a joke really. I laugh at the thought that Gillis thinks he can clean up with trading Luongo.

Trading for Luongo is clearly doing Vancouver a favour. The real trick here is including enough assets back to Vancouver where it isn't so obvious that it is one. It has to be considered a win/win here somehow.

The thing is, I think there is more truth in Burke going with Scrivens and Reimer, than there is Gillis going with Schneider and a disgruntled Luongo in nets. Gillis needs to drop the asking price or all of his already limited options might bail on him.

There's no way a team will pick up that kind of contract and give up valuable assets in the process. I can see there being some kind of good prospect + bad contract + pick package working here, but certainly not a couple 1sts plus...

Gillis is either blowing smoke, or he's going to end up with Luongo in net next year...
