Don't agree. Malone targeted and hit the shoulder first...the follow through went to the head. Mac targeted the head...but that's me. They're not the same hit.

After watching the video, I agree with the suspension to MacArthur. I didn't see either of the Malone or Neil hits.

I do think that the league needs to take a harder line on embellishment / diving. While hits to the head are a concern for the health of the players, diving is an embarrassment to the game. Didn't they have a rule a few years ago where dives were reviewed, fined, and a list was released? Did something happen to that? I don't think suspensions are the answer, but maybe fines and actually having the NHL post some diving videos on their website? Would shame actually work in this era of instant media, particularly if the NHL was the one behind posting it?

I'm betting if Shanny had his way, embellishment would be suspendable....especially in the head snap back crap....

I agree, and I fully support Shanahan.  It's a new world, and everyone will have to get used to it.

I don't agree that Mac "targeted" his head - even Shanny said that he didn't think he did it intentionally. He went for the shoulder, but missed.

In the new rules, if you can't be sure you'll miss, or if you miss, that at least you won't hit the opponent's head, then you have to avoid the hit altogether. That's covered by the "reckless" part of the rule.

It's going to be a big adjustment for players who have "finish your checks" drilled into them.

I'm not crazy about the decision either. Had it been me and I thought it might have truly violated the intent of the rules, I would have said that since the guy obviously embellished/dove, it's tough to be conclusive ... so no suspension.

That's an interesting angle though I'm not sure how the dialogue would go internally but it sure seemed strange that he was shot one second and then trying to fight the next.

Odd seeing you as a 'rookie' but kind of sweet seeing ferret as a Marlie... :)
 
The suspension to McArthur was a laff. How did Neil not get suspended?

And of course Maolne wont get suspended. How would that look when Shanahan goes to Yzermans for steaks and beers?

of course shanahan doesn't suspend malone of course not since he's buddy buddy with steve yzerman but mcarthur got 3 games for barely even touching the guy's head, and also the nhl might as well just take body checking out of the nhl then and call it the no hitting League  ::)

They're trying to make it the no hitting in the head league, and I applaud them for it.

Come on. You can't seriously think Brendan Shanahan is going to be basing these decisions on personal relationships.
