MacArthur suspended 3 games (2 reg. season games)

IMO guys Gill, Chara, and maybe even Aulie and Franson are going to get screw this year with these iffy calls. I dont mind a guy like Chara getting it because of last years hit in Montreal.

But I dont want to see large players sitting 20-25 games for regular hits while idoits like Neil dont get anything on more obvious bad hits. It going to be a long season.

c) Player was not in a vulnerable position
d) Check was 100% clean.

I'm not exactly sure I'd agree with these. I mean, Abdelkader never actually touched the puck on the play and the puck had passed him by a fair bit by the time Mac made contact. Agreed with the other two though, any contact with the head was coincidental. That's a penalty, and maybe a slap-on-the-wrist pre-season game suspension like Boyes'.

3 GAMES? Shouldn't the fact that Abdelkader got right up and wanted to fight MacArthur factor into the decision? I agree with a suspension but that's way too long.

And how does Neil not get suspended for blindsiding Grabovski, WITHOUT the puck?

C'mon Shanny....

I get that Shanny's still getting a feel for the position and all, so, I'm not going to get to riled up about this one. I'm really just concerned about what it means and somewhat baffled by the fact that, in light of a suspension here, Neil didn't get anything for an equally dangerous hit to the head on Grabovski that may have even been delivered with intent.

exactly!  grrrr

Yeah, Shanny and the rest are going to have an interesting time balancing players skating with their heads down and checks like that. I don't want to see anyone get hurt but I also don't want to see the game full of that kind of skating.

Maybe guys will be less careful and put themselves in a vulnerable position in the hopes that an opposing player will receive a suspension?

With the way players started turning into the boards trying to draw penalties I wouldn't be surprised though they have brought in some language to address this. There's going to be a learning curve for everyone at this point.

And Neil doesn't have a squeeky clean reputation either.

He's never been suspended though, so he wouldn't be treated as a repeat offender.

Which MacArthur now will be in the future.

Bah, that dirtbag hasn't been suspended?

We need another hero to right that wrong...

I'm really surprised at that - I'll bet that streak doesn't survive the year though.

I'm fine with a suspension as I think the hit falls into the scope of the rule. however, three games is excessive. I think one game as an example would have been sufficient.

Hits to the head, whether intended or not, need to be stopped. i think in MacArthur's case, it's a bit unfortunate, because one split second later and it's a clean hit (ignoring the lack of Abdelkader touching the puck.)

i haven't seen the Neil/Grabovski hit.

Which, in and of itself, is pretty suspect. I mean, I'm sure there have to have been incidents where he should have been suspended - like the hit on Drury a could years back - where, for whatever reason, he escaped discipline.

Honestly, going through the Chris Neil clips on YouTube is like watching what I imagine the league's "This is a headshot" video would have been like.

I can understand a suspension here as, from the views I've seen, it does seem the head was the principal point of contact.

But I'm with Busta regarding Neil.  If this was suspendable, surely Neil's should have been.
