Maple Leafs Training Camp 2024-25 Thread

Grebyonkin stood out IMO and should get a shot up the line up. I'm not sure what to think of his fight antics, I smiled, but I can also see coaches having an issue with it, but he brings energy. Something that hasn't been seen since Bunting left. He could be a real aggravating player to play against if he gets enough ice time.

I think he?d fit in well on any of the top 3 lines at either wing and would probably be overkill on our 4th.

Knies, McMann, Grebyonkin all in the lineup would be welcome.

It's a very small sample size, but he certainly makes Robertson very expendable.

Grebenkin should probably be starting in the AHL, regardless of camp/preseason performance. I mean maybe it's not entirely fair but it's how things go. He shouldn't bounce a McMann/Jarnkrok/Pacioretty from the roster right now and he'd have to to make the team.

Leafs also just shouldn't be in a rush with him, especially with his waiver eligibility. Let's see how he does in the AHL for awhile to prove that the real deal and possibly find room for him then.

Ignoring trades, assuming Pacioretty is signed, 12 members of the Leafs NHL roster could be 30 or older before the end of this season. Older rosters have more injuries. It is almost certain Grebenkin will play in the NHL even if he starts with the Marlies. Waivers exempt players can help them manage through injuries. Even if Grebenkin is a little better than some on the roster, I'd start him in the AHL to help give them some flexibility when injuries arise. Ditto for Minten (who probably will be injured with high ankle sprain to start the season anyway)

Yeah. He?s going to need some more time to really get used to the smaller rinks and what that means, especially in terms of the pace of play. I have no doubts he?ll get there, but I?m not convinced he?s there are one pre-season game - especially the very first one.

The Hockey News: 'It's Not Serious': Auston Matthews Leaves Maple Leafs Practice Early With Upper-Body Issue, Calle Jarnkrok Day-to-Day with Lower-Body Injury
Auston Matthews did not take part in the second of the Toronto Maple Leafs' non-playing group practice on Tuesday.

"Just an upper-body thing. It's not serious. He should be fine," Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube said.

Matthews skated on a line with Mitch Marner and Steven Lorentz, who returned to the ice after missing the last few days with an upper-body injury. After Matthews departed Marner had to spot-fill for the rest of the session while defenseman William Villeneuve flipped to forward to join the line. The exact issue Matthews is dealing with is unknown.
