Marlies Talk 13/14

I think tonights game will be a very good indicator as to where this series against the Stars , and ultimately the Marlies season, is heading.

If the Marlies lose, it will confirm my suspicion that they have finally run into an opponent that will give them trouble and probably knock them out of the playoffs. If they win, then I think it goes the other way, and they'll play for the cup....In my mind tonight is the decider.

I would agree with that.

They lost 3-2 and now trail the series 2 games to 1.  Cumulative shot totals sitting at 132-71 over three games.

Looks like the Star team is older, probably the graduating class and a little bigger all round. Very well coached, I don't think we can take this team even with Mac standing on his heed.

Good. Hopefully they can win the next one and head back to Texas with the lead (they are playing 2-3-2, right?).

Well done Marlies, you stepped up and delivered. Huge game by Abbott.

Yeah. That was a big win. Needed it. Got it.

Best of three now, with two in Texas. It'll be tough.

'Get the Job Done'  ;D

"Dump and chase" is not advocating the occasional dumping of the puck should the situation warrant, it's a specific strategy designed to generate offensive chances by means of giving the other team the puck.

I don't know if that's what's being advocated but I disagree somewhat, dumping the puck is also a strategy that can include not directly giving the other team the puck if deployed correctly where retrieval through speed is possible ( on balance ) or even if players feel they can battle/win the puck from a state of somewhat neutral play ( ie, the other team has a chance for possession but it's not a given ). It can also include putting the body to the d ( a longer term strategy ), as well as simply being a safety valve when the state of play does not give direct evidence to support the conclusion that maintaining possession while entering the zone is possible.

I'll agree that carrying is better generally when possible but that there are aspects of dumping that are integral to success. I'll go further to say that when teams are expecting the opposition to carry, having an executable plan ( skill/ability ) that puts them off guard is desirable.

Tied 1-1 midway through the 3rd period.  Getting outshot 28-13.  Most of that is from the first period where Texas had three powerplays to the Marlies 0 and they got outshot 17-5.  They came out of the 1st up 1-0

First time at Ricoh. Fun place to see a game. Result wasn't what I was hoping for.

Marlies need to win two in a row in Texas or they are out.

Alright Marlies fans...

Do or die tonight. 8:30pm. LeafsTV.

If they can pull off a victory tonight, anything can happen tomorrow night in game 7.

Just win tonight!

Lets go Marlies!!!
