Funny thing, I was thinking about a defenseman playing forward in a Bill Berg fashion. Then I looked it up, he did play defense as well. Only remember him as a LW.
My thinking was say you had a fourth line of say Paul Ranger, McClement, and Orr... which sucks... but if you had say Gardiner and Reilly on defence ready to jump on a rush or even lead it, it would generate scoring chances. I've seen a rushing defenseman in the past turn the opposition's defence inside out. And what better then a real D-man to fall back?
