This is a must-read:

?People ask me all the time: Are you bitter about not winning a Stanley Cup? Of course I wish that had happened. I wish if for myself and for the city. But the best thing that ever happened to me in my life was coming to Toronto. It?s something you really don?t realize until you?re retired ? the career that you?ve had, what you?ve been a part of.

?I wouldn?t change it for the world. I wouldn?t trade in my 13 years as a Leaf, even for a Stanley Cup ring.??

I wouldn't trade Mats' 13 years as a leaf for a Stanley up ring.

IMO, he's the best player in NHL history never to win a cup.

Tomas Kaberle will be the Habs' participant in tonight's ceremonial faceoff.  Classy move of the team.

Here's my one of kind, custom made Sundin jacket. I will wear it tonight at the game, and probably at the outdoor game and then retire it. When I bought the iron ons the manager told me theyve never sold just the iron ons and they only sold it to me because I work there, so im pretty sure its an original.

Yup, that's pretty great.

I've been hoping that this was going to happen ever since the Kaberle to Montreal trade happened. This makes me happy. I wonder if Gill is going to be involved at all as well.

Gilmour wrote a short piece about Sundin in The Sun:

Hey, you still have time to wash out those mustard stains on the front of your jacket before tonight's game.

I remember hearing an interview with him when he won the Mark Messier award during HNIC and he said he wants to stay a Maple Leaf but the feeling has to be mutual.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2008/05/28/sundin_honoured_future/?gclid=CJq7t-qjzJMCFRLoxgodfiWVhg

In the link you will see he wanted to stay a Leaf and he made it clear they needed to show that they wanted him back which they didn't really do.
I blame the Leafs because if they really wanted him back he would have came back and retired a Leaf.  Even after BB showed up he said it wasn't a direction they were going to go...I was pissed because I wanted to see Sundin retire a Leaf..

Anyways he's still probably the greatest Leaf of all time!!....My two favorites of all time are him and Wendel.....ironically traded for other.

As for the Mark Messier award that was another great honor
Quote from Messier
"The truest test of leadership comes during periods of adversity," said Messier. "When presented with difficult times during the season, Mats Sundin remained committed to his teammates, his community and to the game of hockey. I am honoured to present the Mark Messier Leadership Award to Mats Sundin

It is indeed.  One thing you have to say about the Canadiens, nobody puts on better hockey ceremonies.

I have a soft spot for the hat trick vs. Calgary to get to 500, in 2006.

Extra special, because I took my nephew to his first Leafs game!  :)
