I really must apologize if that has been stated already, but I gotta say, right now, Doughty is the best dman in the game, and it shows. Rarely makes a mistake..rarely.... hey PK, pay attention

I agree that he looks like a man on a mission for these games. Yet, he only has 3 more points in the NHL this season than Cody Franson.

That requires some context though. Doughty's low point totals are mainly the result of the team he plays for.

The Kings employ a defensive-minded system that stifles offensive production, and their top players collectively all have lower point totals than they should be capable of.

The Leafs also employ a defensive system. It's more than that. The Kings have a terrible power play. I think that's what is keeping his offensive numbers down.

There's something inherently wrong with the notion of John Tavares being a fourth liner. It just don't seem right?.

No, he isn't, but try telling that to the Team Canada brass.  But then again, being on a line with Kunitz and Nash/Sharp isn't so bad either.

So Phil eliminates Canada on an OT goal from JVR.

Reception at ACC is ???

Not predicting just wondering....

ACC probably okay as long as Phil and JVR keep scoring for the Leafs...the rest of Canada, though, hate the Leafs just a little bit more...

Well I think there's a world of a difference when comparing the two teams and their respective systems, but leaving that aside we seem to be in agreement about Doughty's numbers being lower than they potentially could be, whatever the cause might be.

I would have liked to have seen some different competition for Canada so far. Austria was pond hockey and Norway was a one dimensional game. Nothing in the way of helping them get any real system together, or the elevated level of play that's needed to win this.

They look very choppy without any flow to the games so far. Ice conditions seem to be an issue with so many falling players, which won't help a fast offensive team...as opposed to a tight defensive system.

I hope they can find that level when it's needed. The talent is there, just need the click.

I know they can, but will it happen? I'm pretty excited to see what happens.

The centre for finland. Jarko Immonen was a leafs draft pick back in the day.  He was also traded for Brian Leetch.

Yea, along with Max Kondratiev and 2 First rounders..

One 1st round pick and one 2nd round pick, not two 1sts.

beside the point.  This was the no name prospect that can always tell friends he was traded for a hall of famer.

and yet when he is 30 he is the top center for team finland.  He is an underdog, like Rocky.

Anyone else thinking Russia may implode here and lose to the Norwegians?

I think this game is a good example of how big ice can kill the offense in a game.  Don't need to be a particularly strong team to have 4-5 guys back all the time, which is all Norway is doing.  I know you can do it on smaller ice too, just seems much easier on the bigger ice surface where the pace slows somewhat.

I think the wider neutral zone and the smaller offensive zone contributes to that as well.

I miss the Leafs, let's cancel this Olympic tournament and get back to the NHL.

Not until they hand out the gold medal for hockey!

Too bad the final can't be U.S. vs. Canada now. Its still a possible semi final matchup though. It will be tough to cheer against van Reimsdyk and Kessel if they do end up facing Canada. It would be even tougher if either team loses their quarter final match ups though, especially Canada.

I didn't, but I do think there's a decent enough chance that the Finns upset the Russians tomorrow.

Which means that failing to beat Finland in regulation may have potentially cost Canada what would have been a much more favourable semifinals opponent: a potential rematch against Finland versus an almost certain match against the United States.

I'm still a bit salty about that.
