Not really a good comparison since Russia hasn't won a best-on-best men's tournament since 1981, while the Jr.'s have a recent history of winning their tournament.

Honestly, the Russians were primed to implode against a stingy team like the Finns.

I had a nagging suspicion this would happen.

It's bittersweet. A top opponent is now removed from the competition, yet they also happen to be one of the most exciting and entertaining teams to watch.

Either way, they'd have to beat 2 out of Finalnd, Sweden and the US in order win gold, so, really, in the end, it doesn't matter all that much. What winning in OT instead of regulation did net Canada is a QF game against Latvia instead of Slovakia - and, I'd call that coming out ahead.
