Mikael Grabovski

When looking at Grabovski's numbers, he should not be compared to Bozak.  He should actually be compared to Bozak and Raymond, since Raymond would not be on the team if Grabo was kept and Bozak let go.  (The cap hit is also about equal)

So after last night the stats look a little better.

Grabo - 3 goals , 1 assist
Ray-Bo - 2 goals, 1 GWG

I thought Raymond was here to replace Frattin/MacArthur?

I'm just glad I picked him in my hockey pool!

Sent from outer space - tinfoil helmet recommended.

Me too! Playing with Ovie on the PP should see him crack 50pts if not 60-70 (I know crazy right?). The assist he got last night, was a bad pass from Grabbo that deflected, and Ovechkin had to reach to get to it and he still managed to bury the shot.

Playing with Ovechkin will inflate numbers (provided that he's on his game).

So will playing with Kessel, I suppose. I don't see Bozak putting up four points. pffft...  :P

When I got to stand at ice level and watch the Leafs practice, it was Grabovski's determined look that left an impression.  I was disappointed during the season.

I think Carlyle wanted more.  Winning face-offs, blocking shots, killing penalties, +/-, etc.  Grabovski is an offensive weapon, but he's not very well rounded.  The current stats show that.  3 goals and a 0 on the +/-.  They loss.  He didn't block shots, kill penalties.  And I might be reading between the lines, but think he wasn't well liked.

For Washington, as long as they rely on others for defensive assignments, they'll do okay.

You can't be serious?

Perhaps he doesn't know that scoring on the PP doesn't count as a +? Or maybe Grabovski really has a rounded problem.

Yeah, that is not right.  If they kept Grabbo, they could buy out Liles.  Keeping Grabbo over Bozak actually saves the leafs 1.6 million in cap space.

And risk losing Kessel because Bozak walks to another team?  Problem with Grabovski is he's a shoot first, pass 2nd type of center.  Skates hard to the net, never looks for the open man and takes a shot.  Apples to oranges but I believe the Leafs will be better off with Kadri taking over the role Grabovski would have played had he been 1st or 2nd line center.

I don't think there's anyone who doesn't think Kadri will develop into the better center for Kessel.

I agree, Bozak is a much better team player then Grabbo.

There are a few reasons why Bozak got 4.2x5 this year and Grabovski got 3x1 on what was essentially a UFA market for both.

That's just not true.  Cam Charron at TheLeafsNation in July 2012 went back and looked at all of his even-strength goals in the 2011-2012 season and found that only once did he score as a result of carrying the puck off the rush.  Which suggests that others on his line led the rush more often.

Why wouldn't that have worked well with Kessel?  He's a guy who had 45 assists in 11-12 and 32 in 48 games last season.  Kessel is perfectly capable of distributing as well as shooting.

Grabovski's playmaking is being grossly undervalued and, not that I think anyone is going to do it, if you were to somehow re-watch his games I think that would play out.

You're right, but I feel pretty safe in predicting that there will be a few reasons why Grabbo gets more next summer than Bozak did.

Grabbo with an assist to tie the game up and send the game into OT, then he scores in the shootout for a WAS win.

Nice to see he's scoring in the shootout again.

Q: How?s Ovi as a driver?

Grabovski: Whoooeeh. [Exhales.] Like in the game, you know? Always machine. I put seatbelt all the time.

LOL
