Exactly. Mac isn't even in the top 3 of overpaid Leafs.

Let's give Lombardi a pass given his situation... So, who do you figure the top 3 ovepayed forwards are? I'll take a quck stab;

1. Lupul
2. Connolly
3. Kessel

Wait, isn't than out top line? Ouch.  :-\

I think Komisarek is up there near the top, regardless of how many points he gets. I also think it's not just about points when considering a contract.

Sure, but I was just taking a stab at the forwards.

If you're just limiting it to forwards, sure. Throw in the D and Komisarek zooms to number one with Captain Forehead coming in at #2.

Purcell had 15 and 16 points the two years before, Mac had 34 and 31 and it's ony 900k more against the cap per, according to capgeek the deal is actually 4.725 over two years.

MacArthur's 62 points tied him for 38th among NHL forwards last year.  Purcell's 51 points tied him for 83rd among forwards.  For that matter, 73 points (11 points more than MacArthur) was good for 15th in the NHL.  Those are some pretty significantly different scoring echelons.

It may or may not sound like a lot, but an 11 point gap is pretty significant.

You're acting like MacArthur got away with murder. Jeez, I think the signing of Connolly really flipped a switch. I don't see how an extra year on MacArthur's contract is an issue.

As far as the extra $1m is concerned - who cares? Just because one GM signs player X number, doesn't mean another GM perceives his player as equivalent. And who knows what went on in the bargaining process. Maybe Burke felt like he didn't want to cheap out and let MacArthur walk. An extra $1m for a very good 2nd line player in a bad UFA year, or let him walk because you cheaped out?

I'm guessing the former.

MacArthur had a whopping 11 more points than Purcell. So, 11 points earns over $1 mil per year and an additional year to boot? Either Stevie Y got a huge bargain or Burke got hosed... or somewher in between perhaps. Or, 11 points means a heck of a lot more than I believe it does maybe.

Additional year? They both signed two year contracts. You're also ignoring the fact that MacArthur's contract buys out his 1st season of UFA eligibility, whereas Purcell's does not.

Man. Sorry, I thought it was a 3 year deal for some reason.

I'm not really fussing over the MacArthur deal (though the his is 250k more than I said I wanted to go.) The point was to question the difference on the between the Purcell and MacArthur contracts based on a 11 point difference. - Not quite sure what my initial distaste for the Connolly deal has to do with anything unless you think I've been overly negative about this summer's moves and honestly, I don't think I have.

11 points this year, 20 points the previous year and 15 the year before coupled with Busta's point about buying a ufa year? In contrast 900k seems pretty good.

Great. Both reasonably fair deals then. Thanks for everyone's input.
