Morgan Rielly

Rielly is captain next year.

At least he should be.

He's been here a long time but is still young.

Seems to be popular in the dressing room.

One of the better players on the two.

Matthews and Tavares with the As.

My son works at a leading BC golf course, Mogan was there this weekend eating and drinking up a storm. And it wasn't Captain Mo he was snarfing back.

My son said he has never seen anyone built so much like a brick shit house.  They are a year apart on the same day.. Sons a year older.  Said Mogan has shoulders like tree trunks.  No one else there knew who he was...

Rielly came into the league listed at 6'0, 197. Now he's listed at 6'1, 221. That's pretty stout.

His height and his style of play always make people think he's a small guy but yeah he's a tank.

And his vertical is pretty high end for such a dense and stout person.

Morgan is a tree trunk of a man, strongest man on the Leafs, probably one of the strongest men in the league. He is built to rub guys out and could skate into corners with eggs in his pockets and not make an omelette. Why isn't he hitting people, closing gaps, making great offensive plays in the O Zone (like he used to do)? Is he hurt? Is he pissed that he wasn't made C? What is going on with our Mogen?
If he doesn't pick up his skate-laces then I would consider trading him, but what would we get when he is playing like space aliens stole his brain?

Oh final comment on the roster is Engvall should be our 3rd line Centre.

Rielly has 17 points in 25 games. He's 4th on the team in points. Yes he's not putting up goals like last year but I don't know how you'd consider trading Rielly at this point. You're trading away a player that had Norris Trophy consideration last year and hoping to improve the team how?

Don't get me wrong, I love Mogen, was my favorite Leaf and close to it now. Fact is he is not playing well, not using his strengths, and worst of all making very bad decisions with the puck, constantly.
Perhaps he has some injury although it doesn't appear so.  Hope Keefe and coaches can turn him around. At least get him off the PK for now.

Anyone would be playing terribly when they're saddled with Ceci.

As for the injury front, there has to be something. Has he not missed quite a few practices in the past 2 or 3 weeks?

This isn't because of CC. Getting beat by Marchand starting the 3rd isn't on CC. Rielly's defensive play hasn't been good. He's also getting exposed on the PK.

I'm not stating that he's been great. But the thought of trading him at this point is a head scratcher. The entire team has been playing below average for a good chunk of the season.

Reilly?s return last night against the Lightning meant more to the Leafs than just for on-ice performance.  Rielly has been described as creating a good presence off-ice especially for his younger teammates, along with another veteran Jake Muzzin.
Always saw Rielly as potential Captain material before Tavares was chosen,

Coach Keefe:
?His impact on the ice speaks for itself, in terms of what he?s done over his career, what he means to this organization,? Keefe said a day before the comeback of the longest-serving Leafs player. ?But the biggest thing for me, I think, at this time of year especially, is just his voice and his presence around the team, in the locker room, on the bench. We don?t have a lot of guys that, I would say, are guys that really are the vocal ones, to push you and get you going. If you were to ask me who the leaders are in that regard, I would say Rielly and Muzzin are the two guys that are the most vocal in terms of pushing our team, and also their personalities are such that they keep it light and keep everyone loose and relaxed.

?I think that in itself, I think, brings a lot to the group.?

Matthews:
?I think he?s a guy that everyone really looks up to,? Matthews said. ?I know for myself, he?s one of my closest friends on the team and somebody that kind of helped me out, especially my first couple years. I spent a lot of time with him, and I still do. He?s a great leader, a great teammate and a really good person.

?He?s a guy that we desperately needed back.?
