New York Rangers vs Washington Capitals

A small part of me wants the Rangers to win the Cup, because it would mean 4 of the last 5 Cups would have been won by different Original 6 teams.

That high stick by Ward was one of the dumbest things I've seen a hockey player do in quite some time considering the the game situation. I mean, with seconds left and on a crucial face-off, at what point toes a fella think, "you know, now would be a good time to two hand tomahawk someone in the face?"

Well it is highly unlikely a player ever thinks that, and what Ward did was, like 99% of highsticks, an accident.  It's a fast game, and emotions are high (especially at that part of the game), and he likely inadvertently got his stick up.  No player in their right mind would purposely do that (exceptions for Marty McSorley).

Regardless, he'll be living with that for a long, long time.

Ricard Persson is still a naughty word in Ottawa.

Give the Rags credit.  They had the means and the energy for that dramatic comeback (courtesy of Ward, of course).  Still, Tortorella's squad can skate with the best of them and continue to eek out a win, no matter how tired or worn they may be (from all the OTs they've been in).  The fact that Torty's team is very well conditioned (thanks to Torts who put them through grinding paces in the workouts throughout the regular), may lend credence to the above.

I expect the Caps to try hard and win Game #6.  This could still be a seven game series.  It ain't over yet.

I expect the Caps to try hard and win Game #6 in their own rink. This could still be a seven game series.  It ain't over yet.

An accident? Wowza! Please explain.

Honestly, it looks more like he's swinging his arms to try to push Hagelin out of the way and his stick deflects off Hagelin's glove up into his face.

Man, you guys have better eyes than I do. To me, he took a hack. He might have not intended to hit him in the face but it was a hack regardless. Just dumb, dumb, dumb.

Washington is up against it now.  Poor Ward, from hero in round 1 to goat in round 2.  If Washington loses this everyone will remember that late penalty.

I really want to see the Caps win this, but I have a feeling this will be the backbreaker.

Caps are sort of like the Leafs, they really put their fans through the ringer with some heartbreaking losses.  Those long OT games come to mind, I heard a stat that the Caps are 0-4 in OT games of 2 or more periods.

hey all John Mitchell haters....
i guess he is not so useless after all?

What an interesting ax to grind.

Nothing says proven wrong like 31 AHL games and 63 NHL games since leaving the Leafs with 16 points in those NHL games and 1 assist in 12 playoff games.  And man, a guy getting 4-5 minutes a night in the postseason is sure a guy to rue missing.

He's a -2 in 12 games as well, really ripping it up.

He's a 4th line faceoff specialist. That seems to be pretty much all they use him for. He's the only Ranger over 50% on faceoffs (55%)

I could get behind a NY-LA final... it wouldn't hurt for the NHL to have some 'glitz' for once...

And if the Rangers win, then Sather can reset his counter of winning the cup every year with the Rangers payroll.
