NHL's 24-team Return to Play proposal

The biggest crowd noises I missed from the exhibition game weren't the reactions to goals, which at least got noise from the horn.  It was the big "oooooh" in response to a big save, a missed chance, a big hit, or a puck off the post.  I'm curious to see what, if anything, they change with the broadcast and/or arena audio moving forward.

Please no more experimentation with bad camera angles.  Toronto is right up there with the best camera angles in the league. Thanks but no thanks to the satellite view and extreme zoom.

Agreed. Save the crazy angles for replay.

Let's see if they can truly pull this off. It's only been a week. Once the restlessness of being fenced up in a five-star frat house kicks in, that'll be the real test.

I like hockey and I'm glad to watch them play, but it feels quite a bit like living in the Hunger Games with the world sort of burning in the backdrop.

I really don't think there's much of a chance a player will break out of the bubble, regardless of restlessness. I imagine there's still small cracks in the bubble that could cause trouble (like are the rink/ice maintenance people stuck inside the bubble? are all the hotel workers or people administering the tests isolating all this time as well?). But a player leaving just to go out to a bar or something? I really don't see it.

Yeah. I have to hope the players are seeing what's going on in MLB, and understand just how quickly the whole house of cards that is this tournament could come crashing down.

They will also be down to 8 teams per bubble in a few days and then 4 teams a couple weeks later.

I think the culture in hockey is a little too "sacrifice for the game" to see that happen.

I do wonder how the recreational cocaine use is being handled in the bubble.  It's not a really great secret that there is a big problem with this in hockey.

I wasn't sure where to put this but the CHL is planning for their next season and it's sounding more MLB than NHL

I guess they'll plan it and see if they can execute. I think all sports should be just written off for one year, when I think we'd be likely to get a vaccine or at least hold COVID heavily in check.

I mean I'm glad the NHL hasn't screwed up their return to play but their 20/21 season will probably look a lot more like this current MLB season too. There hasn't been a peep about doing bubbles for that and it's likely they squeeze in a full 82-game season.

Well, I think that will depend on where North America is at in regards to the fight against the virus. If the states are still chugging along like they are, i don't think we'll see the NHL go out and run a similar schedule to baseball. The Canadian teams wouldn't even be allowed to cross the border.

If the border is still an issue at that point I wonder if they get creative and temporarily rejig the divisions a little. You could have a 7-team Canadian division and only allow inter-divisional play at least for the first half of the season. Some teams might not like it but it could be the only solution.

That would be interesting.

So, who do we figure is getting Lafreniere, the Penguins or the Oilers?

The funny thing is those 2 series' contain the 4 teams I would least want to get him. Pittsburgh and Chicago have had enough 1) success and b) luck in the lottery already. Oilers have had enough of one of those things. And Montreal getting a French superstar would only be acceptable if he turned out to be a huge bust.

Do we know yet where the Cup Finals will be played?  It just occurred to me that either the Eastern or Western finalist is going to have to move from their bubble for the finals.

I'm pretty sure that from the 3rd round on, they will all be played in Edmonton. That means 2 teams will have to move their bubble out west.
